HDDs will not be bottlenecked by Sata II at all.

Thank you smile.gif

Come on intel apologists, its not a big deal for the board to have more than 2 SATA 3.0 ports wink.gif Especially for RAID-0, SRT and such.

Fact of the matter is, there's no reason to not have more SATA 3.0 ports. It can be beneficial for some users, (raid, SRT, etc) and it doesn't hurt SATA 2.0 users. Intel also promised 8 SATA 3.0 ports with x79 and changed their minds for some reason, now they're doing it again with Z77.

The only thing this does is raise the price of your motherboards, because it needs MORE CHIPS for USB 3.0 and additional SATA ports. I know every ASUS motherboard i've purchased in the past year has had the marvell chip for additional SATA 3.0 ports. And the NEC chip for USB 3.0. Obviously if this stuff were native to the chipset, the cost would be less.

Not sure why some of you are fussing wink.gif Or maybe you like having more expensive motherboards:cheers:

You mean the chipset or the board? Chipset already dropped native PCI long time ago, way before LGA 1156.

I know Intel's MB are not the greatest but the fact that they are integrating thunderbolt now is interesting.

Still only 2 SATA 6GB/s ports? Really? Even AMD has 6 SATA6gb ports, christ.

They should have more but very few people have more then two ssds in their system. Not much else needs data 6 CB at this time.

I do, but I confess I'm very pleased with my marvell controller. It's ok:

Still only 2 SATA 6GB/s ports? Really? Even AMD has 6 SATA6gb ports, christ.

If you have more than 2 SATA 6Gbit/s SSDs, you'd be better off with a dedicated RAID card even if it's just RAID0.

And if you're complaining for normal HDDs, they're just breaking 150MB/s now, let alone 300MB/s. DVD/BR drives aren't anywhere near IDE limits, let alone SATA.

Hmm? Using 1 SRT ssd + hdd + hdd data drive I could definitely use more than 2 tongue.gif

I just don't know what intel is thinking by not including it. Especially on x79, their supposed premium platform chipset. Having 6 SATA 2.0 ports and 2 3.0 ports doesn't seem to make sense when even AMD includes 6 3.0 ports

While I want 6Gbit/s on all ports for the sake of simplicity and epeen, your HDDs would barely be limited by SATA 1.5Gbit/s.

USB3.0? Sure.

SATA 6Gbit/s? Why? If you have more than 2 SSDs, you'll want a RAID card anyway (To not be limited by the PCH to CPU link) or be on x79, otherwise nothing uses it.

Because SATA 3Gbit/s controllers (2.0 is not it's name, or 3 for 6Gbit/s) are probably easier to make and use less die space and power. Not much of a difference, but I'd personally rather Thunderbolt than 6 SATA 6Gbit/s ports.

I can't wait for the Z77 boards to come out, I want to get a cheap mATX motherboard and the Ivy Bridge version of the i3 2100 or 2120 for an HTPC. Hell, if I can't find a used Thuban that clocks decently for fairly cheap (And Piledriver sucks) then I'd use it for my main rig until Haswell.

Hopefully. I said something about the others in another thread:
Quote:
One can hope. But I doubt we'll see mITX boards till ~6 months after release of IVB. Not sure what an Asus ROG board would be like for Z77 but I see it still being dominated by Zotac, Asrock, maybe Gigabyte. Asus seems to view the mITX form factor as a media only platform and as such have only made boards that use H67 or H61 rather than an overclocking board. Another problem could be the inherent size of the system. Does ROG want to ruin its name by releasing a board that does not live up to the rest of the line? Unless they spent a lot on making sure cooling was adequate, I doubt it'd ever see the light of day.
