SLI question - must vid cards be identical?

Thread Starter
I'm using A8N SLI mobo with GeForce 6800GT vid card. Just ordered 7950GT vid card upgrade and my question is; can I (or, should I) SLI these two cards together? For SLI purposes, do the cards need to be exactly the same model number and brand name?

Probably a very basic question, sorry if it's redundant.

thanks

edit: I am retarded I just googled it and apparently they dont have to be the same. BUT they should be the same as in a 7600gt with a 7600gt, not a 7600gt with a 7600gs

here is some more to help you http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=47665

They need to have the same GPU, but not necessarily the same brand. The 6800 and 7950 won't work together.
