Anno 2070 or Civ 5

Anyone want to recommend me a good strategy game? I've never played either of these games or their earlier releases so I have no preference just looking for opinions.

They're very different games.

The Anno series (I've played 1701, 1404, 2070) are all city builders akin to SimCity. Basically you place houses and production buildings primarily, then a far far far second are strategy and combat.
The Civ series (I've only played V) focus much much less on the actual city building and much more on the combat and strategy.

I just played a lot of both the past few days, and both are great games, but imho so far, I'd go for 2070.

Both have demos, try em out.

Have you ever played the Tropico series of games? Now that I think about it, Tropico is probably the most similar series to Anno. (I also recommend Tropico tongue.gif)

No, I'm not making this easy am I?biggrin.gif You said that Anno 2070 was close to the Sims but does it have the whole social aspect involved? I'm okay with building cities and things but I don't wanna be picking out sunglasses and getting married....

I've only played Civ 5, but I can say it's a great game if you have the time to play it. 1 game can last 10 hours if not more. Both games have a demo, you should give them a try.

No, not The Sims, SimCity. Same creator and developer, but again completely different games. SimCity is strictly mayoral duties like placing buildings and zoning and making roads etc, The Sims is basically a virtual dollhouse.
