AMD --> Intel Overhaul planned. Opinions needed.

Long story short I got a great deal on an i5 2500k and an Intel DZ68BC motherboard for attending an Intel conference for work. My goal is to convert my current Rig (My rig should be accurate in the sig) over to the 2500k and a Z68 Board. My dillemas are as follows....

Case - Love my NZXT Vulcan but should I step the case up to the big leagues so I can use the Intel DZ68BC board, Or sell the intel board and buy a high end mATX board like the ASUS Maximus IV? I kind of lean toward just getting a mATX board because it requires much less work(buying/selling) but I am a believer in the rock solid nature of intel boards being that I work with them on a daily basis.

SSD - I have a G.skill phoenix pro 120gb drive with the latest firmware. I love the drive and have no issues with it. Should I keep it and use the intel SRT with an extra 60gb of ssd space left over or migrate to a 60gb Sata 3 SSD again requiring alot of selling/buying mumbo jumbo?

Power Supply - The power supply kind of sits in limbo on the debate. If I decide to go mid tower and use the full ATX board then I may opt for SLI or Xfire in the future. My PSU is a good single rail 550w unit that would seem to do fine with a 2500k and a single GPU setup but SLI or Xfire may tip the scales.

GPU - This is kind of obvious that my 5770 will the the bottleneck paired with a sandy bridge i5 overclocked to 4Ghz+ . Do I slap a 6870 or 560 in there or maybe find another 5770 to Xfire?

Thank you for your opinions... ~ Jay

I think youve just got the upgrade bug to be honest.

Stay minimal otherwise the deal you got won't really be a deal anymore.

Easiest option would be to buy a bigger case and throw all your parts into that instead of all this buying and selling.

Case/Board: "Upgrade" whichever you prefer. That's more of a thing that you will either like or dislike. If you really like the case and the current look, just go for the mATX board. Keep in mind, bigger space and bigger board makes it easier to upgrade for a couple of years on the same board.

SSD: This is debatable. I would say keep the current 120GB SSD. You never know if you need the space and it's still an SDD. Even though it's not a M4 or what not, it's still faster than a mech hard drive. tongue.gif

PSU: If you plan on SLi/CFX, upgrade to a 750w/850w. If not, the 550w is fine.

GPU: This decides your PSU problem. CFX 5770 will give you roughly the same performance as a 6870/560. I would go for the single GPU solution and in this case the 6870 over the 560.

Don't waste the power and the performance of the 2500k you got. Upgrade the GPU for sure. Hope that helps.

Your probably right, But I have been wanting to go to SB for a while now and this is my chance. After this conversion I will probably not upgrade for a few years.

Also I guess I should mention that I'm in the market for a new living room computer desk, going to spend $4-500 so I guess I should see if It will fit a mid tower nicely.

Your case is fine the board will fit. I think your SSD is fine too. PSU should have plenty of amps on the +12v rail to handle your GPU but I would definitely upgrade to 6870 so you don't bottleneck. Great deal you got good luck with the switch.

That intel board will not fit in the NZXT Vulcan case its a full atx board and a mATX case. I think I've made up my mind to get a high end matx board and keep everything else.(selling the dz68bc) Looking at an asus and asrock atm. Any suggestions on mATX Z68 boards?
