2gb and probably excellent overclockability(1.3+ ?) make this an easy winner at its price 128bit or not.

I have no idea what's wrong with people here. what do u expect? this card will probably carry it's weight in the $130-150 price bracket. nothing to be disappointed about. if you want more performance, spend more and get a better card.

This ^^

IT'S A HIGH PERFORMING HTPC CARD FFS! No 6-pin power cable... and it still competes with the GTX460? What exactly are we *****ing about??

almost certainly yes, so comparing directly the 800 VLIW5 stream processors from the HD5770 to the 896 GCN is not really accurate, each of this units should be a bit stronger on the GCN card,
also the HD7770 seems to be a lot better in terms of texturing (40 vs 56), also if the other improvements from the "Southern Islands" family extends to this GPU, it should be MUCH faster in tessellation and the 16 ROPs should be way more efficient to...
but memory bandwidth is lower (or the same) on the hd7770,

I was under the impression that the only cards that will be based on GCN would be the 79xx parts. I thought even the 78xx were going to be VLIW5, pretty much just die shrunk 69xx cards. Which doesn't mean the 77xx will be VLIW5 necessarily, but you would think they would be if the 78xx are going to be. Anyone know for sure?

Edit: Though not 100% reliable, wiki has it listed this way on the charts and I have found a few other charts with it saying 79xx only on GCN. I was pretty sure it was going to be that way. Here is the quote on wiki, and have found the same thing on numerous sites.
Quote:
"The flagship models (HD79x0) are based on a new architecture identified as Graphics Core Next (GCN). All other models are still based on the VLIW architechture."

that was what was being reported a few weeks ago, but many sources now are saying the entire HD7900/7800/7700 are GCN based, only mobile, integrated and lower models use VLIW4/VLIW5

and this AMD slide place the 7700 as a "Souther Island" product, so I'm inclined to believe it is GCN.

It was the anantech 7970 article that said all 3 GPU are GCN.
Wiki is also the last place to take info on unreleased PC hardware since fanboys like to edit it based on outdated rumors.
