CM V6 GT - Page 2

post #11 of 26
@NotKarl

Have you experienced any issue/diificulty upon mounting the CM V6GT on your mobo? I asked because I wasn't able to fit mine when I had the V6GT. The bottom heatsink of my extreme7 (too tall) hinders the fitting. It only fits when mounted horizontally which i find very awkward. So I just brought it back to the shop and replaced it with a CM V8.

If you have successfully mounted yours, I hope you won't mind me asking for pictures so that I can have an idea. Thanks. smile.gif

re with your temps, i think you're doing fine with it. as everybody's saying that AS-5 was noted for it's burn-in peroids.
just wait for it to settle a bit. 30 at idle and 60 at load/stress is not bad for a start at all wink.gif

@Fermie

good thing that store allowed for an exchange with your cooler, most of our stores/shops have this ridiculous policy; open/tried it, considered it sold then....except for factory defects, isn't it? doh.gif

@swOrd

Yeah, when i called the shop I expected them to tell me that policy (and those "Item compatibility is the buyer's responsilbity" stuff). I told them that the V6GT won't fit with my mobo (which I also bought from them several days before) and asked if I can replace it with an Antec Kuhler 920 and just add money for the price difference (I thought that if I asked for a more expensive item, they might consider my plea thinking.gif).

Fortunately, they did'nt said anything about policies and just told me to bring the cooler back to them. I was having second thought on using the Kuhler 920 so I called again if I can just get the CM V8 as a replacement (much cheaper than V6 GT) but with no refund of change, and they said it's ok. biggrin.gif

So I cleaned and boxed the V6 GT and brought it back to the shop. And guess what, they even gave me the change for the price difference. lmaosmiley.gif
Now that's what I call quality customer service! cheers.gif

But I do really like that V6 GT. I had good plans for it in my build and I've already bought 2 blue UV fans for it frown.gif. So I just used the one for my V8. cool.gif

Well, this is already my 2nd V8. The old one i'm using for my 1st build (AMD) which is now the family PC. That's how I also love the V8. It just so happened that the V6 GT with UV blue fans coincides greatly with my theme. I've already tried the fans with the V6 GT and it really looks amazing (I did'nt told that story with the shop owner of course hypocritesmiley.png).

Anyways, i'm quite satisfied with the V8 and the triple eight (888) visible in my case (from the Cooler, Video Card, and PSU) might just bring me some feng shui good luck. businesssmiley.png

@Fermi - very nice looking PC - can you get those strip lamps in red without them looking pink? I'll upload some photos once I get home from work in a couple of hours :-)

@Sword_fish I've noticed my temperatures seem to be improving by 1-2 degrees already, I'm burning in sensibly by doing around 6 hours on for games, overnight idle and off during the day. Good that they're reasonable, I'm still considering remounting outside of the case to make sure it's definitely mounted right, and also as my cable management could be a lot better if I prepare the cables BEFORE mounting the mobo in the case.

@Karl

nice to hear that temp drop thumb.gif , wait for a couple of days more and see. i heard people burned-in their AS-5 for 3~5 days to get good results.
but i would expect that it shouldn't hit the 30's with that cooler/TIM/casing combo with stock speeds @ idle. and it wont hurt to re-do your cooler 'outside the case' and that's the way it should be in the first hand.
i thought it was possible either to install my V8 while my mobo was already mounted at my case, with just one look and i found it might end up screwed...... not that easy to work around at tight room with those huge coolers of ours. and so i take out the mobo then mount the V8 at ease.

mind to share us some pics of your rig? smile.gif

edit; i guess Karl has the red cathodes and it looks pink for him biggrin.gif

As for me, I even made a big hole at the back of my case so that I can mount the V8 (or any CPU cooler) even when the mobo is already in the case. proof.gif

Well, it turned out to be a big pain in the arse coz the V8 just damn wiggles as I mount it along with the backplate. mad.gif It really took me some time and effort to fully mount it (I even got cut in the hand by the cooler's fin and bleed) and I somehow got the feeling that the paste (which I carefully and evenly applied) somehow got screwed in there due to the wiggling. But now I realized the paste was'nt affected at all since my CPU temps are just fine. tongue.gif
