New to the forum, need feedback on a custom build - Page 3

Expensive (for entry), but best option even for my rig ASROCK P67 Extreme 4 gen 3
It looks like Micro-center doesn't really have anything else in stock.
Otherwise try the first few options in this search. If you want to sli in the future you will need the GIGABYTE GA-P67X-UD3-B3 or the ASRock mobo I linked above. thumb.gif

NOTE: Also for a fun fact. The reason behind chip sets is the H67 is an on-board graphics MOBO with no overclocking, and the P67 is the overclocking enabled version. Z68 is a hybrid of the two with both capabilities with 1 or 2 more bonus features. Although these chip set names are unique to the individual CPU sockets, This being the SB socket LG1155.

Edit: the post below me is a z68 chipset, however has x16, x4 pci lanes apposed to the better 2 x8 lanes (or x16 for 1 gpu and then x8,x8 for two gpus) and that x4 lane can potentially cause a GPU bandwidth issue depending on the card's resource needs.

you need a p67/z68 motherboard in order to be able to overclock your 2500k..furthermore..you really need one with decent power phases..like this

Hmm, well, I really don't need a z68, just a p67. I could go to best buy to get a p67 I guess, but since I'm already returning the mobo from microcenter it would be easier to just go there. I'm not ordering more stuff from newegg, so now im kinda stuck.

If you apply for shoprunner? on newegg you can get free 2 day shipping. Just cancel your sub afterwords. that's what I did and guess what they did 2 months later? free 1 year membership.

I was hoping on just returning this mobo to microcenter and then running over to bestbuy and grabbing a p67 for around 100 dollars. Does microcenter give refunds?

Okay i figured it out, I will return the mobo i got from microcenter and then buy this http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0358080 , now heres the thing, the first one was bought with a credit card, what im thinking is, I will return this and just pay 7 dollars to get the other one. Will that work? I paid 92 for the bad one and this one is 99. And is it okay that it's msi?

The 550 Ti is a rather poor performer; it's a rebadged 450. You're much better off with this one, which can be unlocked to a 470 by flashing the BIOS (hence the black PCB).

And would make a solid card once OC'ed. Pair that up with a Silencer 760 (which is great value AR) from there then you can add an another 470 later down the road...

be aware that this board does not support SLI or Xfire. It's completely up to you for it to be MSI, I owned one on my first build and was not satisfied. But they are obviously in the business so who knows, maybe you will get lucky... or just never see an issue that a more demanding user would be annoyed by.

This is also a CPU 4pin board apposed to an 8 pin by the CPU than would result in a better/more stable overclock.

Go on microcenter.com, and choose the store "Pa- Philadelphia/st davids" see if you can find a good p67 card at that store thats in stock for under 110 dollars.
