4GB CL6 v 8GB CL9 - Page 3

go for the 8GB Ram. Usually u c a boost in performance when u aren't get the full for BF3 8 GB RAM is enough to play at 1080p. the bottom line is the bandwidth in 8GB 1600Mhz cl9 is enough to runn BF 3 smoothly if even if u put CL6 the Bandwidth will be the same bcoz its the data and the commands are transferring at the optimum speed i hope u are getting what i m say buddy rolleyes.gif

You can still run 2X4GB and 2X2GB, aslong as one of each stick is in a channel. So each channel is 6GB and 2 channels together is 12GB.

So proved that SB can't run in triple channel biggrin.gif
If anyone wants to test the performance loss from having the third stick vs two or four can, but back to the OP, real world performance won't matter thumb.gif

I just did an I'm waiting for stubass to finish the last for me to verify everything.

If you have three dimms occupied it does indeed run single channel even tho it says dual! frown.gif

And dual channel does give a nice performance increase too!

So far this is what i got with my system, i cant do teh last set up b/c my cooler covers the slot. mad.gifWarning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

to finish off Seans test as you can see as well 3 dimms in this configuration is shows dual channel but runs single

RAM used G.Skill RipjawsX 1600 CL8

I hope this along with seans test, some benchs on the effects of populating your RAM slots.

In test 2 and 3 look at the difference in performance between cmd rates, clearly theres a a rather greater performance using 1T over 2T. Infact these resilts show approx 64% increase using cmd rate of 1T.
Also notice the differnce comparing with test 1 that with 16GB RAM, at 1900MHz 8-8-8-24 2T compared to 12GB at 1333 9-9-9-24 1T there is a performance increase of about 15% tho writes are similar
