Gaming laptop !? 1 - 1.5k?

Thread Starter
So I basically spec'd out a laptop from some various manufacturers... something like

Intel i7-2630QM 2GHz(or something similar?..2.2gz?...)
15.6" OR 17.3"?
8GB DDR3
500GB
WiFi, NVIDIA GTX 560M
Windows 7 Home

Is this a decent rig that will last a bit? I'm still unsure if a 560gtx-m will be good enough...looking to run things like diablo 3, steam-source games on full/max...and other various demanding games and apps.

My other questions is with the monitor size...is it worth it to get a 17.3"?...does a 15" screen have less cpu/gpu demand? or is that a myth? and is Matte better than glossy ?

and for RAM..8gb is enough I suspect... but at what timing and what is the difference? 1066Mhz, 1333Mhz or 1600Mhz?

Intel i5 or i7?

for the brands I'm trying to decide with... Malibal, Sager, Clevo, MSI and ASUS are what I am comparing with... clevo/sager and malibal seem to be cheaper with the same type of specs...any thoughts on these?

and finally...how much of a difference will this type of laptop compare with my current desktop with a AMD athlon 7750 2.7 ghz dual core, 2 gb ram, and a 9800 gt

Thanks to anyone who can answer any or all of my insane questions!! biggrin.gif

laptop gpu's are a bit slower than full size gpus. They are clocked lower to conserve power and avoid heat.
That NVIDIA GTX 560M will most likely run at the speed of a full sized GTX550 or HD6770.
Still fast enough for any game at high settings so dont worry.

This looks powerful but battery life will be shorter:

This might be a bit cheaper but can still game at decent settings:

Try looking for an i3 with HD6670 or faster card for best results.
quadcores will eat too much battery power.
