Pretty nice build. If you are going performance for the price, might wanna check out Conroe (Intel Core 2 Duo). Even a bottom of the line (E6300) will outperform that 3800 X2. Other than that, nice build, I havent heard of that mobo, but other than that, looks to all be pretty quality parts. Aspire FTW.

Edit: Nevermind about not hearinga bout the mobo, that is a DFI, didn't click on the link, just went by what you had, couldnt remember a mobo maker named Infinity.

Hmm, if I went for a Core 2 Duo, what board would be best to go with my build?

That I am not sure about as I am not fully versed about conroe, all I know is that it is better than anything AMD has. Looks like Chozart is checking this thread out, I am sure he will know.

It's basically a choice of performance CPU or performance GPU. Having that said, I'd not go for the X800GTO for that price. For just $50 more, you have an X1900GT or an 7900GS. OK, first an Core 2 Duo rig:

Case: APEVIA (ASPIRE) X-Pider ATXA2XPW-AL/500 $99.99
MoBo: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 $149.99
Video: BFG Tech BFGR76256GTOCE Geforce 7600GT $143.99
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz $183.00
RAM: G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 $149.99
HDD: Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YD 160GB $64.99
Monitor: Acer AL1916WAbd Black 19" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor $179.99
DVD: NEC 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Black $29.99

Total: $1,001.93

Possible savings: RAM, MoBo (S3 instead of DS3)

And for AM2:
Replace CPU/MoBo/GPU in the Core 2 Duo rig with:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2.0GHz Socket AM2 $153.99
MoBo: ASUS M2N-E Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra $92.99
Video: SAPPHIRE 100189L Radeon X1900GT 256MB GDDR3 $199.99

Total will then be $971.72

Now it all depends what you expect from future technology. If you expect that AMD strikes back hard, the AM2 rig with the faster video card is a good option, upgradable to AMD's next CPU. However, the Core 2 Duo rig also is good, and it's likely you will upgrade video anyways next year (DX10), so it's a viable alternative.

Finally, I am not too excited about Apevia PSUs, esp. if they come with a case. Don't rely on that PSU for too long. I'd get a cheaper case like this COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UB Black /Blue and a better PSU, like the Antec Truepower II. Granted, it'll push your budget a bit.
