please folks, i dont want this to turn into a big flame war. Thank you everyone for your feedback. I'll continue researching but some of you have been correct, the OCZ's ratings have been lower than Samsung's. I still do not like how vague some of them are, but I am grateful for all of the help thus far. Thanks.thumb.gif

If I recall correctly, the Vertex drives are similar to Agility drives, but with modified firmware for a little extra performance. Personally I run Vertex 2 and 3's in my HTPC, Laptop, Gaming and LAN Rig's, but I run OCZ Solid drives in my Server builds.

LOL, do you work for ocz tech support???

"Yes sir, the bsod is your fault because you don't know what you're doing. Please use our 20 step windows setup guide and you'll be fine"

"Yes sir, if the bsod is still occuring then it's your overclock, please go back to stock and you'll be fine."

"Yes sir, the bsod is still occuring because Intel's Sata 6gb/s implentation is faulty. Wait for new motherboard bios and remove RST drivers and you'll be fine."

6 months later, it's found to be a firmware issue causing the majority of bsod bug problems.

I've talked with a few PC Shops around here and their viewpoint was OCZ's are good entry level-budget minded people but be prepared for a firmware update nightmare, and Corsair, Samsung, Intels to be prepared for a stable product, but slow to no firmware updates..

bah! There should be an industry standard that firmwares be released at least every year to update things and everyone should have the same standards to follow! mad.gif

Honestly, get whatever is the best bang for buck. You should always have a backup of your data anyway, and just about every manufacturer has a good enough warranty to cover any RMA if it comes up.

I've owned four Vertex drives (OCZ Vertex 1 30 GB, 2x OCZ Vertex 2 60 GB, 1x OCZ Vertex 3 120 GB) and they've all worked great for as long as I've owned them (3 years, 2 years, 2 months, respectively).

If it works out of the box, congrats. If it doesn't, try a firmware update. If it doesn't work then, RMA. It's quite simple.

bah! There should be an industry standard that firmwares be released at least every year to update things and everyone should have the same standards to follow! mad.gif

Firmware replacement is generally only to fix bugs that are found or to update performance.

The Vertex 3 went like this. 2.02 shipped. 2.06 within days of release. Then 2.08, 2.09, 2.11, 2.13 and current 2.15 all trying to cure the bsod bug. Speed in later firmware revisions was slightly reduced, I don't know why.

The m4 went 001, 002 then 009. 009 brought sequential reads to 500mbs and 4k-64thrd reads to almost 300mbs so it was mostly a performance increase update.

The PC shops should have realized as well that the Corsair Force 3 series is essentially the same ssd line as the Vertex/Agility 3 and come with all the same issues as well. The OCZ 3 series are simple to update using the usb stick method.

USB Stick method? I see that almost all of the drives have some major firmware ugprades pending upon purchase.

is it true that a firmware upgrade to any drive forces the deletion of the data? I've seen a couple reviews that state a firmware upgrade deleted all of the data. This would get very annoying after a while, especially if there are tons of updates
