my mom has finally approved

Thread Starter
Yesterday I disassembled three desktops, a Dell Precision and two Lenovo ThinkCentre, reassembled them, and gained my mom's approval. Now I may finally search for things I will order unlike my last batch of threads. Story time over.

I watch Anime and listen to Japanese music (j-pop, j-rock, vocaloids, etc.) which I rip and encode (or download). Then I listen to it and try to transpose it into piano music as I'm a pianist and have taken a liking to piano instead of despising it (this I have covered over at Head-Fi). Other than that, I use Microsoft Office, Chrome, Nightly, Rainmeter, and a lot of other simple things. Although I might fold once in a while for long periods of time like during the winter to keep my room warm. My budget right now is undefined but if I needed to guess, I would say around $1000 but just in case, I was thinking about generating a list for different amounts. For example, a list for $500, $600, $700, you get the point. Thanks!

try this. http://www.hardware-revolution.com/computer-systems/

In general I think you'd benefit from a z68 chip-set for quicksync.

If you don't plan to do any intense gaming, a simple i3 2100/cheap z68 system without discrete graphics card should be perfect for your needs.

Case ~50
PSU ~50
MB/CPU ~180-250
Ram ~30
1TB HDD or 64GB SSD ~100-120
OD ~17

Should cost around $500-550

+OS ~100
+GPU ~100-150

Haha. Wanted to link that site and be done with it. But I can't help myself.

Based on today's deals, $540.63 ($25 rebate)
Though you could still save at least another $80 just by choosing cheaper parts.

LianLi PC-K57
Corsair TX650W
i3 2100
Asrock Extreme3 Gen3 (open box)
G.Skill Ripjaws 2x4GB @ 1600 CL9
Crucial M4 64GB (OCZ is cheaper, But I don't trust their SSDs) OR 1TB HDD
Samsung DVD drive

Note: You don't really have to spend this much. In fact you could spend quite a lot less.
This will be a good platform to upgrade on in the future as the PSU and MB will allow SLI/CF with mid-range video cards.
In fact, this is my recommendation for a 2500k Rig... just using the i3 2100 and no GPU.

+100 for OS
+100 for i5 2500k
+100-200 per GPU

The case...meh. I'll probably change that to a Core 3000. The only thing I'm certain about is a Fractal for my case.

Well, you dont really need to payy for an OS, if you are student or use linux

If I'm a student (I am) I can get Windows free (or near free) or I can just get Linux (free). Anyways, back to original topic.

Was looking at an Athlon II X3 450 and unlocking the fourth core in the $80 range, a Phenom II X4 Zosma (the 95W model) and trying to get the extra two cores, or an i3-2100 (I think a 6 core would stomp it, that's if it unlocks. Power draw though...). I don't think I should go any higher than that. Plus, I could just save some change for Ivy Bridge.

If you choose this route, just get the i3 to hold you over till you save up for Ivy thumb.gif

Would it be better if I just got a Celeron for now since it's going to be a bit until Ivy Bridge and since it'll take a while for the stuff I'm planning to order from cdjapan to arrive so I won't be doing anything demanding right away.

if you're not playing games then you don't need anything extreme.

intel i3
4gb ram
storage
maybe an SSD if you want that "zippy" feel to everything
micro-atx case
any old GPU.
350W PSU

should come out to $500 or less not including monitor.

I don't know if this link will work. Probably not.
