Many people were suprised when EVGA came out with the SR-2 and the larger format (athough computer hardware typically gets smaller over time).
Out of curiosity, did you give this some thought? In any case, loving this project!

i did actually.
you see, the MoBo won't be mounted the way it is in the final product.
it will be mounted diagnally away from the corner, so yes, there will be a somewhat "easy" way to accomadate larger boards.
the only problem is, i'll basically have to rebuild mounts and such for it...but hell that's what makes this whole thing fun smile.gif

Haz....glad to hear! In my build, I have a large enough motherboard try to accommodate an SR-2 (or the current SR-3 for that matter). All I have to do is drill the additional holes into the acrylic (as necessary) to accommodate the new board. What I am thinking is that you can create a large enough tray to accommodate any motherboard profile.Rebuilding the mounts should be relatively simple and inexpensive. The tray we designed is 16 inches x 16 inches square. Those dimensions are large enough to accommodate the SR-2.

In addition to your overall desk design, what ideas do you have on functional and/or aesthetic details? I am sure your coneptual design has much more that you posted here. Assuming you do not have any photos or drawings, I would enjoy listening to some of your your really "cool" ideas you had for your desk that may, or may not, become a reality. For example, what would you like to have done that is possible but not it's either too complicated or too expensive? To qualify this...I do not mean using 100 year-old mahgony wood for your desk because that wood is too expensive. Rather, did you consider a sliding motherboard tray for easier access? Will the desk itself have embedded LED lighting or some other special effects?

I would enjoy hearing more about your ideas. After all, the brainstorming part of this process is sooooo much fun. smile.gif

i did think about a sliding MoBo tray but i don't think i will go thru with it. eventually i am hoping to find some sort of latch to mount the tray instead of screws.

As far as the aesthetics, i will be doing a good bit. i have a buddy making me some emblems on his plasma cutter(i will post up prototypes), i will be using black (with gray specs) laminate to cover ALL of the wood, i have a special res i am working on (not disclosing....surprise biggrin.gif). I am going to be back lighting the TV(with adjustable voltage LEDs), ill be using a red UV reactive tubing with black liquid and black anti kink coils. That said, i will be using a mixture of LEDs and UV cathodes for lighting. Everything will run off of a panel(switches) so that i can customize what i want on/off.

The tubing setup on the MoBo will be done using spacers and 90-degree elbows to make for a really nice clean look. For the most part, everything i am doing is reachable...i just have to put the time in. I have already done away with most of my high expenses (except a few things around 300 a piece, but that's down the road).

wow, when i read the first post i thought "this is really ambitious". But credit where it's due, it looks so far like you really look like you know what you're doing.

Anyway, i'm subscribed.
