the multiverse theory has been around for a VERY long time. it doesn't belong to myst biggrin.gif it's like saying the theory of shooting a gun belongs to CoD smile.gif

anyway. i haven't been able to finish the game because it gives me a splitting headache when i play it frown.gif i don't think it's my machine (2500k +7970) but i haven't had this much headache in a long time trying to play a game. IMO game dev's have gone way overboard with what they disallow people to turn off lately. if you KNOW screen shake will give you a massive headache after 30min's. that means any game that does not allow you to turn off that splitting headache "feature" is not going to enjoyable. same with constantly bringing the image out of focus or other vertigo inducing effects.

i have a feeling that in about 10 years, there will be video game "caused" illnesses involving these effects that you are unable to turn off in video options. I guess i'm getting old. but i think the current trend of game design is seriously going down hill because they don't really CARE about what "actually" looks good. they just want all the effects included even if it makes the player want to throw up in real life from vertigo. games are approaching a point where it's no longer enjoyable and more of a torture...

the best video game ever is quickly becoming this... step 1 turn your monitor off, step 2 give you little bro a baseball bat and have him hit you on the side of your head with it as hard as he can.... result? you cant see shiet and you have a splitting headache... just like most modern highly reviewed video games. except the games use dirt/blood/smoke/darkness to hide what you want to see and constant screen shake, constant going in and out of focus, and snapping camera views that induce vertigo to give you the splitting headache.

Ditto. I have completely forgotten about Tomb Raider (which I thought was fantastic) and Crysis 3. Bioshock Infinite is difficult to put down, and the environments/artistry are fantastic.

It's the narrow FOV that causes head aches and nausea. You should do the FOV ini tweak.

Well I just finished the game. Yeahhhhhhh all of that "in game demo" stuff never happened. Elizabeth never opened up a rift to paris like in the demo. Kind of wondering if that isn't going to be a add on down the line.

The way vigors work is a bit of a step backward from the power ups in Bioshock 2 (lol I already forgot the name of the power ups). In bioschok 2 you could be more proactive and aggressive about getting power. In bioschock 3 it kind of just takes you along for the ride. Guns are much the same way.

There are also a lot of things that they flat out seemed to steal from myst, even the whole notion of multiple worlds and the multiverse theory seems to have been extrated right from myst. It actually becomes pretty apparent when they start getting towards the end. (if any of you ever actually sat through the brain damaging frustration that was myst, god bless you).

The graphics are a huge step up from bioshock 2, but a MASSIVE let down considering the current technology for graphics engines. I would describe the graphics like crysis 3 and Kingdom Hearts had a weird mutant offspring. Everyone has rather large eyes, and even at max settings, there was still some noticeable pixelation of peoples faces when you got close. Everything was also too bright. I do understand that the city is in the sky and of course it is going to get a lot of sunlight up there, but the shadows and lighting are wayyyy off. Even skyrim with no mods did a better job at lighting which is weird since you think that while they were stealing some of the monsters from skyrim (not going to name which ones for the sake of keeping spoilers out of this post) that the game makers would have noticed the lovely lighting skyrim has. But I guess that is not obvious to them. However, The depth of objects and the fluidity of moving objects has certainly improved.

Another weird thing to keep in mind guys is that this game really seems to take a step away from the Bio in bioshock. All the weird, dark, and creepy human experimentation and mutation has been done away with and has been replaced by quantum mechanics. To a certain extent, you almost need to know a bit about physics just to understand the plot line. Don't get me wrong. I still LOVE the plot line. But for some of you die hard bioshock fans who love the creepy little sisters like they are your own daughter and love to have nightmares about drugged out zombies going through withdraw trying to kill you.....prepare to be disappointed.

The guns in this game are a little wacky too. Instead of having your always trusty rivet gun on hand, you have to pick up dropped weapons or find weapons laying around. This kind of sucks because when you like a gun, you are sometimes forced to trade out for a lesser quality gun due to ammo constraints. Normally I have no issue with this in games where the enemy is mainly using a single gun with a few unique guns thrown into the mix. In this game it seems like everyone has a different gun than you and you can't find ammo worth a crap. It gets very annoying very quickly.

This game is sort of a wash for me. If they had made the story line into a movie, it would have probably been one of the greatest movies of all time. And for just the story line alone, I absolutely love this game. But the game play is kind of pathetic.

Please use spoiler tags, a lot of people have just started to play this game.

pretty sure it's all the screen shake and camera snapping that's causing my headache... i mean look at this

there is maybe 20 seconds out of that video where the screen isn't shaking or bouncing in 1 way or another... call me old. but i can already starting to feel the beginning of a headache just watching that short vid.

*shrug* Once I did the FOV tweak all of my head sickness went away. I don't know how old you are, but I've been playing FPS games since 1992 and never had a problem until this game. I changed the FOV to 96 degrees and it was like an entirely different experience.

I've only found that it stutters if you don't have the graphics set to get 60FPS at all times. If you look at posted benchmarks, the 7950 (my card) gets about 55FPS. That's off memory, don't quote me. This is at 1080, some areas of the game are going to obviously be? Above the average, some below. Those low spots, they cause what we call stuttering. I'm going to say the game wasn't extremely well optimized however I doubt optimization is going to get those low drops at 1080 up to 60FPS. So know what I did? I played at 720, actually it's 1360x768 but close enough. I'd rather play at that and on Ultra than down settings to get 1080. I even had room to tweak the ini, get some better visuals? Not sure, though at 768 my GPU use is generaly 60 with some areas in the 80s and spikes above that. You know what that equates to? No stuttering, gee who woulda thunk it.

Personally AMD should do adaptive vsync, though with this game it wouldn't matter too much. Anyways, if you don't like that idea/conclusion as to why the stutter is there. Well, that's cool. Anyone not getting stutter is probably getting FPS capped at 30, or not using vsync and dealing with the fugly tearing. Or they have a better setup than I do, which is also reasonable. If you do, then you might want to tweak the setup. If your system isn't up to par, 7970/670 or above, then you might want to consider taking my route for the "smoothest" experience. It's not rocket science, expect more reviews and "benchmarks" to solidify what I've said.

The stuttering people are talking about is the background streaming. It causes FPS to drop big time, regardless of GPU/CPU. Even SLI Titan users are having this issue.
