Write speed with Dxtory

Thread Starter
Hey guys!

I'm having this problem with Dxtory where, when I look back at a record game I played, it looks like I was lagging (alot) in certain parts. When I play, there is absolutely no lag. I'm pretty sure the problem come from the write speed. I recrod at 30 fps and, as I'm recording, I see that it sometimes drops to 8 or 10 fps. I mean, I know I have a SATA2 5900rpm hard drive, but shouldn't it be able to record with good speed?

So here is my question: Is there a way to make this stop, or do I have to buy a better hard drive? The game itself (BF3) is on my SSD and so is Dxtory, so the HDD isn't being used all that much.

what settings are you using?
  • try different codecs.
  • defrag your hard drive.

Man you need to have at least 2 HDD, when recording with either Dxtory or Fraps. You gotta save the videos on the HDD where your OS is not located. Thats the key.

1. Everyone says the Dxtory codec is the best
2. I do it every week

dxtory codec may have the best quality. but it doesn't make sense to use it if your computer hand handle it right?

try lowering the video capture resolution to 720P instead of 1080P might help.
or try using divx or xvid codecs. I get pretty good results with those 2 codecs at 20 MBps @ 720P video resolution.

You can't record 1080p on a 5900rpm. You need a 7200rpm unfortunately.

Oh I missed that part my bad, does it work on lower than 720p? Have you tried? That will tell you if it's the write speeds or not
