validating windows 7 help please

Thread Starter
So I built a new rig and installed my windows 7 disk, however when I try to validate it says the disk is for upgrade only so im assuming I have to install XP and then install the upgrade? Also how to I go about installing XP because windows 7 wont let me format my main boot drive. Am I supposed 2 just boot from the disk, because i tried that and got an error.

Help will be appriciated thanks

Did you copy that from my install guide or one of my posts? B/c that is exactly how I set up my links. lol
You are fine btw, digital river links are good to share smile.gif

If you want to wipe the OS drive and reinstall you can try my guide out.

I am not sure on the whole upgrade thing, but you should be able to call up and see what's up.

To be clear, I have the same upgrade disk. I was able to clean install. When I went to activate, I couldn't due to the key being an upgrade key and will only work if you upgrade from a previous version of windows. Note: you do not need to activate the version you are upgradeing from, just make sure it meets minimum requirements for upgrade.

edit: Also, flavor needs to match if upgrading from vista sp1. I.e. Vista Home Premium -> 7 Home Premium.

Yes I did. Hope you don't mind. tongue.gif

Actually I'm not that crazy with the whole upgrade thingy either, there's so many issues with that. I did that on my dad's laptop and it worked fine for a month or so, then the whole system started to freeze, BSODs popping just out out of the blue, applications, programs even games stopped working. Let's just say it wasn't a pleasant experience. smile.gif

I've got 6 Legit Win7 Ultimate keys, along with 2 Vista Ultimate keys, and 1 Corporate XP key. I don't see a point in pirating OS's.
