Apparently you bought a new motherboard so you could properly run SLI, but completly forgot to factor in CPU, believing some forum clown that your current CPU wouldnt bottleneck, even though person who gave you advice based that advice on NOTHING!
Worst thing you could do is buy another cpu, especially another AMD cpu with little or no research.
No AMD cpu will be enough at stock speed for SLI gtx 560's. AMD cpus have been mediocre for 5-6 years now, and despite what people may say, CPU is still more important for gaming than GPU, espeically when you can buy nice used GPUs for 30 dollars that will play most games in 1080p.
Some guy in forums said is not research. For all you know, person giving you advice is 13 years old.
That said if you really want to be Mr. Hardcore PC gamer, you need an intel quad core. Anyone who says otherwise isnt hardcore. Its pretty much been this way for 4 years now since q6600 release.

True, but anything over 60 FPS is overkill for most monitor.

Phenom II x6 1100T shouldn't bottleneck your GPUs but I don't know why you wouldn't want to overclock it. Just improves performance, pick up a $20 Hyper 212+ and you can get great cooling.

If you want a good cheap quad core to oc then I would go for a 960T, which is a Phenom II x6 with 2 cores lock. My friend has one and it oc to 4 ghz with ease.

EDIT
I had a Phenom II 555 x2 with a 5970 2 gb and I had no Bottlenecking there.

Here's another perpective.

If you upgrade from any Athlon to Phenom x6 1100t, you will feel the difference in games no matter what, from slight overclock(means no voltage change) to heavy. Let's say 20-30 fps at most.

If you return that motherboard and go for Intel 2500k, you will feel the difference in games without any overclock. Let's say 50-70 fps increase.

Before going into "Performance varies by Games", What games do you play ?

If you want to stick with amd the 1090/1100 will provide tons of fun, the 960t is also a potential cpu to get if the x6 is sold out, you should overclock it to at least 3.8ghz though, its very easy and you shouldnt be affraid too, just buy a decent cpu cooler and your good. Intel is faster though. What games are you going to be playing the most though? And what resolution again?

I personally used a 560ti sli on my setup below, the pics are in my album for proof and it did great on bf3, I had 120+ fps in 64player games ultra msaa off, I think the min was around 80fps if I remember correct, I didnt save any screens which I now regret since so many people say you cant sli on amd lol. I sometimes think I should have kept the setup but I was hoping to sli 570gtx and go for a 120hz monitor but havent had the play money lately.

I wouldnt buy a 1090 now to replace in a few months for intel, thats a total of about $600 you will spend doing that. If you can afford the $400 to go intel do it, but you will find that for $170 the 1090 will give you a lot of fun.

Its true that from benchmarks people show that intel does better but at 100fps vs 140fps does that really matter? over 60fps your not really going to notice anything unless you have a 120hz monitor which i bet you dont.

You have to do what your budget allows, even if thats a $109 amd 960T which will still be an improvement over what you have, but you really need to overclock to get the most out of it, these parts were meant for overclocking, thats why the multiplier is unlocked. You can do a simple overclock without even trying.

I think this sums it up, any way you look at it, your going to feel an increase. Its what you can afford. Myself personally im not an AMD fanboy, Im going with intel when ivy hits, but the fact is I have loved my amd setup and am only upgrading because i like benchmarking too. Eventually I would like to sli the next gen cpu's and I know the phenom ii wont be up to CF two 7970's or sli two 780gtx, it would but it would probably perform like one gtx580 rather than what it should lol

Benchmarking is different from gaming, while it shows what performance will be like many people focus too much on which is the benchmark queen. In real life we cant all afford Exotic cars, but a good mustang or camaro can give plety of enjoyement.

No Phenom or Bulldozer is going to cut it.

Go for an Intel 2500k. Leaps and bounds ahead of AMD when it comes to performance.

on a benchmark yes, but with his setup do you really think he will notice it? no. He isnt running sli 580's. Even if it bottlenecks the 560ti sli the fps he is missing out on wont matter, his minimum fps will always be very playable.

You can help us help you by answering these questions:

A) What resolution are you playing at?

B) Is Crysis the only game you see this as a problem for?

C) What are your max temps on your Athlon?

D) Are your GPU's overclocked?
