Asus X79 Series Information Thread (drivers, BIOSes, overclocking) **UPDATED 4/22** - Page 3

I just updated to Windows 8 and a lot of the drivers don't work on Windows 8 (the ones you download from asus or here) but out of the box everything seems to work okay). I did notice that I had to disable the Marvell storage controller and asm1061 controllers. Also I was unable to install from an USB 3.0 drive..

It would be cool if this guide also had the latest drivers for bluetooth and windows 8 drivers..

How did you force install? I couldn't get it to work and I've been doing this for a while.

Thanks for making this thread. Quick question : Why does the official Asus site list older versions of a lot of these driver updates? Also, sometimes the updates on the Asus site seem to list new versions with older numbers than the previous release.

btw in device manager I have 'PCI Simple Communications Controller' listed that doesn't have a driver installed for it. Anyone know what that is and what driver is needed for it? Motherboard is R4F.

Sorry for the late reply.

Like other manufacturers, they have to test each driver to make sure it is compatible with their board. Usually the latest ones are compatible and shouldn't impose any issues. No clue about their version numbering.

As for the PCI Simple Communications Controller listing in Device Manager, you need to install Intel Management Engine driver.

Thanks for the reply. What is the Intel Management Driver for? Do I need to install it? Does it affect the operation of the MB at all?

Not entirely sure what it's meant to do but it is required for that controller, that's all I know.

What about TRIM or the SSD Toolbox from Intel with the new RSTe driver 3.2.0.1135? I am just using the RSTe driver 11.5.0.1207. Fernando has published a modded version of this driver, which works fantastic with the X79 motherboard. No more problems optimizing my SSDs with the Intel SSD Toolbox.

Hi guys, I hope one of you guys can give me some hints about this new "BIOS Converter utility".
I just dont get what should be done because the "manual" is not precise enough for my taste.

Let imagine I want to update my BIOS from Version 1XXX.

I use one of the methods to "install" this file (SABERTOOTH-X79-CAP-Converter.ROM).
This has not updated the BIOS just added (???) the converter to the BIOS.
AND THIS PROCESS DID NOT DELETE THE OLD BIOS.
(Hopefully)
Then I could use one of the methods to actually UPDATE my BIOS using the provided file (SABERTOOTH-X79-ASUS-2002.CAP)
And hopefully this process did not delete the converter.

It sound simple but I am really afraid (not scared biggrin.gif), if I put that converter thing on my BIOS chip
that it erases something and I cant boot or render the mobo useless.

Thank you very much for your help in advance,
Eiht@bios_version1104
