Looking to upgrade from my 3gs...

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about an Android device. I know that pretty much anything out right now will spank my Iphone but I want to future proof for a while. I'm looking at the Galaxy S II on AT&T but I heard there's a g version to stay away from. I also am unsure if there's anything good coming out soon to wait out for. I would hate to buy one now, and then a week later a new and improved version comes out...

Well the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the hottest phone on the market atm.
Features over the Galaxy S 2:
-Latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (boasts good performance increase, and others)
-It is a Google Certified phone so you will get updates directly from Google.
-720p Screen 4.65 inches
-16/32GB Built in (SGS2 has same thing)
-no microSD Card Slot
-5MP Camera with no Shutter Lag
-1750mAh Battery

Samsung Galaxy S 2 is just as good.
-Runs Gingerbread 2.3.3 (unofficially ICS 4.0)
-800*400 Screen 4.3 inches
-Up to 32GB of more Storage
-8MP Camera
-1650mAh Battery

Personally if I had the cash I would get the Galaxy Nexus. Being a Google phone it will have great support through Google themselves and also unofficially. Which gives in my opinion the step up over the Galaxy S 2.

This...the only reason I dont get the Nexus is because I use my phone as a MP3 player too and no micro SD slot is a deal breaker for me.

as far as next week something better coming out...of course there is every week something new and better is released (figuratively speaking)

but this is technology if you were to wait for the latest and greatest you would never buy anything...

that being said SGS 2 is suppose to officially get ICS soon (relative term I know)

and it OR the Nexus Prime should pretty well future proof you for the next year or so.

the both are dual core with FFC and HD video recording which are the big things right now it seems (oh and dont forget they both support 4g/lte/hspa+/whatever above 3g you wanna call it)

As an owner of a 4.5inch Galaxy SIIX (T-Mobile/Telus Variant), the Nexus would be too big.

I personally wish I have gotten the 4.3inch GalaxyS2, simply because that 1/5th of an inch makes if fit in your hand so much better, and removes the teeniest bit of bulk when in your pocket.

4.65inches is halfway to a tablet, in my opinion.

Is the Galaxy Nexus available on AT&T? I haven't seen it. But I'm more than likely going to go for the Galaxy SII. I really like the upgradable memory. The only thing about the SII that I wish was better is the resolution.

I am thoroughly enjoying my GSII. As you may have surmised, the Galaxy Nexus is not available on AT&T... yet. I wouldnt wait for it, as there will be many other phones in the mean time.

If you were mainly concerned about resolution, you could always look at the Galaxy Note. Sure, it is MASSIVE, but from what I am reading it really is not too bad and can fill the role of both tablet (in a limited sense) and phone. It has many of the same internals that the GSII uses, just a higher clocked CPU. If you cant tell, it is still my dream phone.

If buying an iphone with your upgrade, selling it and buying an international phone doesnt appeal, I highly recommend the GSII. And go for this case, it rocks http://www.ebay.com/itm/SAMSUNG-GALAXY-S-2-I9100-TAURUS-Aluminum-Case-Cover-BK-/270778895872

Are you already grandfathered into the unlimited data plan for AT&T iphones? If so, and you're planning on sticking with AT&T, I'd probably just go with a newer iphone. A few places are running off and on deals for a free iphone 4 with 2 year plan, you just have to keep your eyes open. I know Best Buy was running a free iphone 4 one day only, and I'm guessing you will likely see another one pop up soon. If you want the latest and greatest, the iphone 4s performs well imho. I'm not trying to startup an iphone vs android fight here. I'm really only saying this if you have the unlimited plan with AT&T. If you don't, you can pretty much just pass up my entire post.
