I am SO done with this junk Corsair SSD!

Thread Starter
I can not for the life of me get this old SSD to work whatsoever. I bought a recert'd off TD for 35 a ways back. It didn't work (couldn't change drive parameters, it would show up then disappear frequently.), I RMA'd. Corsair was cool sent me another recert'd. I was all yay about getting this going. But I can't. mad.gifmad.gif I bought a CMFSSD-32N1/RF2. I can not find any information about this drive. The only lead I got was from a Newegg review about it having a JMICRON controller, and then Corsair replied saying it was a newer "better" one on this particular SSD. That's apparently not the case at all with this.

It doesn't matter if I view the drive externally or internally, CrystalDisk and SSD health checker whatever, can't bring up any useful information either. The only thing I found out is that TRIM is not supported on this firmware, according to Corsair, this drive had an available firmware update which would support TRIM. So I've spent a good few hours trying to figure out how to make a Bootable pen drive, which ended up being impossible with like 500 different flash drives. So I gave up on that and continued to read the firmware update thread. I guess this specific had SSD no firmware update because it was not an "xForce" edition. But, the only reason I found that thread... was a from a previous google search which led me to a thread on Corsair's forums talking about how there is a firmware update. I am completely lost and about ready to see how durable it is against a Semi. I'm mad. I'm real mad. Pretty butthurt too. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Or if this SSD just sucks. The drive shows up in the BIOS and in all my disk checking programs (Disk Part, Dev MGR) but, I can't do nothin to it except copy files to it. And if I wanted a 32GB storage drive, I would have bought a flash drive! sozo.gif

Anyone got any useful advice/information/leads?

I can provide linkage to all my sources where I found my information. But I don't know if it is relevant to this thread, seeing as how anyone who knows what my problem is, knows what little fact I just stated.

Any help will be much thanked.

If you have nothing of use to say in this thread, it's in your best interest to close this tab.

EDIT: I don't know if this is relevant, but when I booted into Windows for the first time with the SSD installed internally it had looked like my GPU died, so I was like oh noes. I was holding the power button and before the the computer shut off the desktop showed up fine and the restart ended up working fine.

It would be much appreciated smile.gif

I've tried doing it from disk part and using a bunch of random software, but on the random software none of my flash drives show up.

This is how I make my bootable usb for DOS exe tools.

Make a bootable USB device for utilities:
  1. Download the the files (link)
  2. Extract
  3. Open the USB Disk Storage Format Utility
  4. Select your flash drive
  5. Select File system > FAT32
  6. Label what you want it to be named
  7. Tick the check box for "Quick format" and "Create a DOS Bootable Disk"
  8. Under "using DOS system files located at: click browse
  9. Select the entire "win98boot" folder
  10. Click Start
  11. When finished Close
  12. Go into your app you want to boot from and drag all the files onto your flash drive
  13. Then plug it in and boot from it!

Is this your drive?

Google "HP USB Format Tool". IMO its the easiest way to set up a bootable flash drive.

Have you been using the HP tool to format a flash drive? "HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool" is what you should be looking at. I've used it several times with success for flashing my motherboard's BIOS, among other things.

Edit: Heh, wow. Guess I'm not the only one that uses it...

This is the method I've had the most success with. Make sure the flash drive is in the Fat32 format (either that of NTFS - cant remember, its been a while redface.gif)

Worked great for that smile.gif All the other guides were complicated as sin and didn't work anywho.

The HP format tool wouldn't recognize my drive. +Rep to those who assisted.

And nope, that's the issue, that's not my drive. Even though if I google the part number that's all that shows up. (Even though I found the drive yesterday on newegg, but I wasn't thinking and didn't bookmark the page)

This is my drive:

Newegg link to my drive, 3rd review is where I learned about the JM controller.
