It is most certainly *not* always true that single-players games have low CPU demands.
Skyrim on Ultra settings requires a TON of CPU power ... in part because it only uses 2 cores with any level of effectiveness. Even w/my email@example.comGHz, there's places in the game where the CPU BN drops my FPS into the 30-40 range.
I would also point out there's a mod for Skyrim that helps lower the CPU demands about 25% by making the code run in a more optimized way. It's an SKSE mod, and the .dll file is called TESVAL.dll. I don't have the link handy but it should be google-able ... highly rec'd for anyone running the game ...
