OMG - This thing is HUNGRY!

Thread Starter
So I decided to do some more testing with my current system. I really want to get the max out of this thing just on principal now.

My MSI board stops posting @ 305

My CPU is currently 2.7ghz and I know I can get into windows @ 2.75

Tonight I decided to fool around to to see if I could get stable @ 2.7 and I started noticeing a few things...

@ 1.45 vcore Prime95 would halt immediately on core 1
@ 1.55 vcore Prime95 would halt about 15 seconds in on core 1
@ 1.60 vcore Prime95 would halt about 40 seconds in on core 1
@ 1.65 vcore Prime95 hasn't halted in the last 5 minutes!!!!

Is 1.65 the magic number for my AMD? Maybe so... but what does that mean for me? I'm currently @ full load on the single core running 52c in a rather chilly room. I have a stock AMD cooler ( The nice one that ships with the x2's )

Do I have to go to water for 1.65? Can I somehow someway cool this sucker down with air? I'm a bit scared of the Big Typhoon and the Tuniq Tower...

So what next? How can I cool this vcore starved CPU? I'm so freaked out by the 1.65 vcore =X

Scythe ninja?

Even the freezer 64 pro would help.

freezer 64 or anything other than the stock cooler. 52c with the stock cooler at that vcore is pretty nice. the big typhoon isnt scary really and there are tutorials like this one here to help you. its well worth the hassle

The Big Typhoon is not scary at all. It is a very efficient cooler and is worth every penny IMO. Keep in mind that your chip has the integrated heatspreader so there is no worry about cracking the core. Plus, the new Big Typhoon VX is more powerful and clips on like the OEM cooler. No tools required at all.
