Question about PC hooked up to HDTV VIA HDMI, but with a TOSLINk Cable connecting to the TV from Sound-card. - Page 2

Well see, my system is a crappy X-530 from Logitech. Yes, I know, many of you wouldn't even consider them speakers, but that's not the point here. They are far better than the ones built into my TV, and I was wondering if I put a Optical Cable from my Soundcard, which has an Optical Cable in / out, to my TV which has an Optical Cable Input, could I then use my 5.1 speakers? Yes, I will get a true Hi-Fi system eventually, but we're talking about right now.

Basically be using my Soundcard as a supplemental receiver.

Your TV has an optical output, not an optical input.

Your TV also has no multichannel analog outputs, so even if your TV had optical input, it would have no way to output 5.1 to your speakers.

So dude...have you even looked at the back of your TV or are you just high? lol your questions make no sense.

=/

Of course I've looked at the back of my TV, I just have never used TOSLINK / Optical before, so I assumed the input / output thing would be the same.

So I use it to output to my soundcard, which then can send it through my speakers, using my Soundcard as receiver in that sense? Same basic question remains, regardless of the smaller details. I mean a DAC is a DAC in the end.

No need to be an ass.

So it would be Optical Out on TV to Optical in on Sound Card. Then sound could play through the Soundcard and go over my speakers(plugged into the soundcard's analog ports), correct?

I think your mixed up with the "using NVIDIA's HDMI thing only allows you to use their audio chip", you can only send sound over HDMI using the NVidia Chip, you can use HDMI for picture and either your soundcard or HDMI (Nvidia chip) for sound (you can choose either HDMI or your soundcard in control pannel>sound). If I've understood correctly you should just connect your soundcard to your speakers and the HDMI to the TV and set the soundcard as the default device.

Yes, that would be best, however I heard rumors since the 4xx & above series, NVIDIA does not allow that. Cables will arrive in a few days, guess I can check then.
