Desperate times:(

Hey there guys, recently built a new rig and definitely my mum isn't going to give me money to buy any more parts. I have the athlon x2 250 and the only way i can game properly is buy overclocking the processor to at least 3.9ghz but all on stock cooling. As prices are really high here in India and as such i really need a cpu cooler as temps go pretty high. Need a cooler or new processor badly. So do any of you know of a quick fix for now?

There isnt really a quick fix as such, you'll need either a new processor or cooler as you said. The Cooler Master Hyper 212+ is one of the best coolers for its low price. Other than that, be patient and save up to get a new processor.

quick fix? well an off the wall idea would be to take the stock heatsink, remove all the stock fins and solder on humungous copper bars and fins? Sorry but you most likely won't be able to use anything not made to be a cpu cooler unless you have the ability to form/cut metal for the backplate as well as a very flat surface for cpu contact. Since it's India, I'm going to assume there isn't a vast landfill of large high performance cpu coolers lying around at your friends' houses to borrow so I can't really say there's a free or quick fix. Either earn the money somehow or lower the graphics on your games until you can afford to overclock more.

Also, I had come here thinking I may be able to help with something actually desperate rolleyes.gif

I'm looking for a decent quad core and i've thought about thought about the 960T but as of now that's way too expensive so i considered the phenom x2 945 but sadly they don't sell them anymore and the phenom x2 950be has a 125tdp rating and i'm using an MSI mobo, the 760gm p33 which is rated for 95w and when i went in for the mobo i never knew about msi been such cheapskates when it comes to the quality of their vrms. Yeah im a heavy gamer,i have the msi 6770 and that's fine for now.

Essentially from what I can gather from your reply, all you've talked about is more things you want to buy. You've already mentioned that your mom won't give you anymore money so there's no reason to complain about it. If you don't like MSI, then return it if you can. If you can't, then accept this as a lesson learned and steer clear of them in the future. Just remember that you get what you pay for. You're not going to get all the goodies that's available on a high end board if you don't pay the money for one. To be honest with you, it's not MSI's fault. That is a bit of the low end for boards and I'm pretty sure boards of similar price from other companies will be quite similar. There isn't a magical company that'll have 10x better products for the same price. I'm sorry for your money issues with your build but it's just a fact of life and economy. If you have an actual budget that you can specify then we would all be happy to help you find something better if possible, but as you've only mentioned the items you can't afford, there's really nothing any of us can do. We don't even know what parts are available where you live so a list would be nice (of items you can afford if any).

Not to sound rude but getting a job is the best way to get money for parts. If your young or even early 20's McDonalds is actually a good job to start out with. Its challenging at times, but also very fun, plus its very easy to get raises. I've worked there for about 6 months and I'm making almost 10 bucks an hour biggrin.gif

tongue.gif I wanted to say something along those lines but tried to hold it back since I know it can be difficult if you don't know the true situation of the person on the other end but looks like you've started the Jenga rolleyes.gif

See actually it was my mistake to go with the msi board and in fact even high end msi mobos fail under any overclock. It is asus mobos which have vrm protection. As of now i need a new processor with the rated tdp of my mobo. Any processor which has a good price to performance ratio, and is worth buying, maybe nothing beyond 5500/-
