Gaming PC crashing when playing facebook games..... fix?

Thread Starter
I haven't had any trouble with running this PC pretty hard on a lot of actual games, but when the mrs plays Castleville on facebook it has been crashing repeatedly.

Windows 7, 64 bit
Waterfox 8.0.1

Not sure how to approach this one. Screen flickers to useless lines, then blue screen memory dump and restart.

Seriously what the hell, this has to be a clash with software somewhere, anyone else had the same thing? Is it worth trying it in Firefox, or IE or something to rule out browser as a factor?

Not really sure where to start on this one. It's pretty annoying, I don't like it when this PC crashes like that.

Facebook games are poorly coded. My wife has a hard time playing sims on my gaming PC herself... a computer restart tends to work for a short while, hehe.

It could be bad memory, you could run memtest86+ to see. Have you tried other browsers than Waterfox? It could be because it's 64 bit and I'm not sure about 64 bit flash player.

Haven't tried other browsers, I've asked her to use Firefox instead in future so we'll see how that work out, if it crashes again I'll post it here and go from there I guess smile.gif

Haha, dump files by default are usually located in C:\Windows\Minidump. In there just look for the one with the most recent time & date of a Facebook related BSOD.

After you've found it, just go to mediafire.com and upload it, you don't need to register smile.gif

Oh hi mate, we're two.

My computer crashes doing EVERYTHING but gaming.

10 Memtest runs show no errors, PCCheck throws no errors, Furmark says nothing, HD tests do fine, off-windows Prime95 says the CPU's rock solid...

I'm inclined towards thinking it's Windows who blows up the thing.

It's usually when idle, or when browsing the internetz.

Ah, and there's no BSOD. Only that flickering screen you too see.

Wow, annoying!! Guessing you have reinstalled Windows a few times?? Mine never crashes (lately) thankfully, since I stopped using slot 1 of the CH IV F anyway - whenever I try putting the 2nd card in, crossfire or no, an AMAZING amount of **** goes wrong. Nothing consistent. I have to get around to pulling the board and sending it off for testing one of these days, but I realllly can't be bothered so I'm putting that off as long as possible. Search my created threads for amazing confusion and see if you can solve it tongue.gif

.

If I may, I recommend disabling HWA (Hardware Acceleration) in both Adobe Flash and in Firefox (or any other browser itself). That's most likely your issue if unstable overclocks isn't the issue.

Edit: Okay, took a look and it really didn't relay anything that I can go off of. The process that caused the crash was plugin-container (which is Firefox, essentially). I recommend as well you disable HWA and see if your issues cease. If you're absolutely sure you're not BSOD'ing in games, then it could just be a simple flash issue that can be solved by disabling HWA.
