How Much Do I Need??

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I wanna ask just how much wattage do I need to power up the rig in my sig with the 9500 GT switched to a GTX 460. I've tried five power supply calculators online. One says I need 573W, another one says I need 383W, yet another one says I need at least 450W, one says I need 492W, and the other one says I need 550W.

My CPU is overclocked to 4.6 with 1.305 vCore in the bios. Right now I'm leaning towards the one which recommends 492W, as my CPU and the 460 alone would easily consume more than 383W. I'm not sure on this though, that's why I'm here to ask. Thoughts??

Edit: Also, I'd like to overclock the 460 to at least 810MHz.

I say you'll be fine with a 550 Watt High Quality brand, such as Corsair or some of the nicer Antecs.

Not the best Corsair has to offer, but it should serve well nonetheless. and it's at a good price.

Thing is, options over here at my place is quite limited. With the price of the CX unit you recommended, I can only get a CM Extreme Power 550W. There's only three brands I can choose from at my place, namely E-Max (generic), Cooler Master (semi-generic) and Xigmatek (not sure if generic). And prices of power supplies and graphics cards over here is ridiculous, not sure why is it not the case with other parts though. I could get something better if I go further, but I don't wanna drive one to two hours to go through traffic jams (basically cars not moving AT ALL) just to get a power supply. Plus this is the only store where I can find GTX 460, anywhere else, no 460 and as I said, graphics card prices here is ridiculous, so anything higher end will not fit in my budget.

Any Decent 450w will do you justice.

No need to overkill, the 460 is quite power efficient.

Youl only need an excellent 400W unit or a decent 450W one.. the CX suggested above is pretty poor and not worth its price... link the shop/s you'll be buying from and your budget, you'll get the best suggestions this way.

I see. Would I be able to get away with this unit?? As I said, options and prices here are VERY limited and ridiculous. For example, the unit I linked costs $40, which when converted to Ringgit Malaysia, is about RM120, but here in Malaysia, it's RM160, which is about $53.

Here is a PDF version of the price list of the shop I'm looking at.

Edit: I want the price as low as possible (lowest priced unit that can power my rig).

There's nothing in that shop that's worth the transition from your current unit... your Elite Power 400W, even though very inefficient, will power your upgraded rig..
No point in spending 60/80$ for an Extreme Power unit which is actually worst than your current one wink.gif

Why risk anything just go with Extreme Power 500-550-600W the PSU is your most vital part in PC trust me you don't want to cheap on it.
