I have won a Ducky keyboard and need help picking the switches. I play mostly FPS and do a bit of typing every day, I was leaning towards the red switches but would like some input from ocn.

Reds are really nice for gaming in mind, but blues are really good for a little bit of everything.
I think Browns are a little bit more middle ground than blues. That is what I eventually went with for my ducky shine.

Really happy with it as they're linear yet tactile, perfect for a first time mech user. Though I feel that you will be happy with whichever you decide to go with.

edit: you said you play mainly fps, reds are considered the fps switch, but for typing many complain that its to light a switch. Your call

A person can't really decide which switch is best for someone else. Personally if I were to win a shine I would get MX Blue switches since I already have a MX Black. Different people prefer different switches so you have to decide what sounds best for yourself. Don't listen to what other people say about some switches being better than others.

alright then, does any one know a location in the lower mainland of BC where some mechanical keyboards will be on demo? My first thought was NCIX

I decided on brown and could not be happier. I would go with either brown or red, But I am more towards brown because I LOVE the tactile bump. Its very subtle and only noticeable when typing like it should be but its not really noticeable when gaming.

I went with the Browns for my Ducky Shine and couldn't be happier. First Mechanical Keyboard, mainly an FPS player, and for typing and Counter-Strike 1.6 both, the Browns for me are perfection. I'll look forward to personally testing out some other switches in the future though, but I have a good feeling Browns will be what I go after here on out, at least for a computer I'm doing a bit of gaming on.

I don't like browns or reds. I'm too heavy handed. I have blues but the noise bothers me on occasion. I can hear it through the metal song I'm blasting to with my closed headphones. I'd go for blacks, I tried clears as my first switch and they made my hand hurt after about an hour of gaming.

I prefer reds over everything for typing and gaming. As you can see by this thread you shouldn't rely on anyone to choose your switch type, it's all personal preference.
