New member and new build!

Thread Starter
G'day guys, I am completely new to building computers and while researching for my build I came across this site. It's my very first build and these are the components I have picked so far.
CPU
i7 2700k

Graphics
Gigabyte Geforce GTX590

RAM
2x G.Skill Ripjaws X 4GB (2133MHz)

Case
Coolermaster HAF-X

Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7-B3

OS
Windows 7 64bit

Also looking at getting an 800W PSU, 1TB Black Caviar Hard drive, a Blu Ray burner of some sort and probably some sort of water cooling system because it gets bloody hot here in Australia....

I want a decent gaming rig and I will also be using it for trading on the stockmarket so will be using multiple screens. I am also interested in doing some folding that I see here. Not looking at OC'ing it straight away but will definitely be looking at getting into that down the track.

Would love to know if this is going to be a great rig or if you all think it will be a hunk of ****e smile.gif anything you can tell me will be much appreciated, thanks and I look forward to seeing you all in the forums!

To save money, not sure what your budget is, but I would consider moving to a 2600K rather than a 2700K, go with an AMD 7970 (completely dependant upon cost and availability in AUS, but I think the 590 is overkill for "decent gaming" and in the states its a couple hundred dollars cheaper, of course when it launches in a week), and you could settle with 1600 ram instead of 2133.

Cheers for the feedback!

I was looking at the 2600k but the 2700k is only about $30 more so I thought why not.....

And yeah the 590 is probably overkill, but has plenty of ports for my multiple screen setup, maybe I just got a bit excited with it all, I figure if I can afford it then it will last a long time before I need to upgrade?

And the RAM I found for $88, is there a reason to drop to the 1600MHz or is it just not really necessary for the 2133?

The 2133 is usually more expensive, so I was just informing you it wasn't necessary, but its fine to go with that. Everything you have stated will work fine, I was just looking at it from a cost to performance perspective. Also, make sure to get a good 800-850W PSU. Corsair and Seasonic will great in that setup.

Thanks heaps Yanks for your input I appreciate it alot! Researching all the components has been a bit daunting and a steep learning curve, it's great to get someone who knows what they are on about to give me their opinion.

My opinions are based upon pricing in the states, and I am sure it varies in AUS. The 590 is my biggest concern. I have heard those run quite hot, and the performance over an overclocked 7970 isn't much. But as I said before, I only can comment on pricing and availability in the US, and that may vary in AUS.
