Any general advice for vmodding? - Page 2

and undo the mod.. and same result? Do you have resistance value at stock? Does GPU measure out there once mod is removed?

**last thing I would check is the NF200 chip and sink.. had the HS on mine wiggle a little loose and started spouting red lines and arties all in the benchies and desktop...

*yeah thats definite IHS.. so no worries about clamp pressure, until you start warping the PCB wink.gif

Yeah, reversed the mod when the issue started and got the same thing. Measure resistance and it's the same as it was before I modded (and unmodded) it. The HS on the NF200 chip was tightly on, checked that die for damage and found none and can't see any PCB warping.

Quite the weird death to me. tongue.gif

You try it since then.. I have also had a few GPU's that would only work once mounted with a pot. I have done some reading on XS and caught a thread where others have had similar issues.. related to warping the PCB and cracking solder beads on the core. Mounting the block provides just enough tension to get things to work .. baking GPU would be only fix for that though.

*Not saying you need to bake it.. just kinda throwing things out at this point. Issues like that are never fun to troubleshoot.. and can eat up a lot of time..and patience.

not sure if it will help but i got a old dead motherboard ( old 478 from a comp i found on side of the road lol )
and practiced soldering little bits of wire... around.. where? where ever it would go lol
pretty much ever pin of most IC units and chips.. pins points anything lol

started off really bad.. but now im still not that good but its helped (:

thats my $0.02 anyways good luck with ur next card smile.gif

i got.... 4 cards im wanting to volt mod.. as well as 3 dead ones that have already passed frown.gif
9400gt - i heated up a resistor with the iron as i tried to put the VR on and couldnt get it back on lol
8400gs - the volt mod was all good.. benching wasnt to bad.. but it fell off a bench and got crushed but other bits that were on the bench lol >.<<br /> 220gt - got wrong points >.< put voltage down the wrong side.. dont know how.. dont know why... but my fault lol..

they are all pretty cheap cards lol.. but now i only got 2 x 5750s a 8800gt and a 285 :/ todo lol worth a little more then the ones that are already dead xD

anyways /end rant

Thought I would bump my old thread for the sake of showing I hadn't given up on voltmodding after this. I didn't touch anything for a while, but recently I have got back on the bandwagon and had some successive sessions of gpu modding. I'm still far from perfect, but I am improving as time goes on. I'm up to five cards with no deaths so far. biggrin.gif

The card that got me back into it. G210 that I modded up for an OCN competition a while back, I never really entered as my card was jjunk, but it got me back into the swing.

Simple 5770 VGPU mod.

8800GTX VGPU, VMEM, OVP, VMEASURE. Was happy to successfully complete this one with the epic fail of my last attempt.

And tonight I finished up an 8800GTS. VGPU, VMEM, OVP, OCP, VMEASURE. It's a bit messy, I need to start grounding to other areas and not pcie power pins to keep things clean.

Close up of OCP mod. Again, not perfect but this was my first time soldering SMD components and my iron tip felt a bit big for the job. All functional though.

All in all I'm happy with the way things are going now, steady improvements and no deaths. They'll all be frozen soon. biggrin.gif

Looking good. I've modded about a billion cards and still won't solder smd's. I do it the lazy way and use big ol ceramic resistors for primarion ocp.

Thanks guys. Have 90L of LN2 coming on Friday so I'll be having some fun this weekend. biggrin.gif

I know you know your way around cold, and this sorta goes for everything. But ill say it anyways mount and thermal paste will make or brake your 8800gtx benching. Ive prolly benched mine 10 times on ln2 and havent walked away yet feeling like ive maxed it out.
