Case Front Panel Audio connected to Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Card?

Thread Starter
I have a Cooler Master Storm Scout...

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional Series PCIe Card.

I want to buy the Corsair Vengeance 1300 Headset...

They should work great with my Sound Card, based on all the reviews and such I've read about them; however instead of crawling around to the back of my case and constantly swapping out the speaker plugs with the headset plug...

My Case has two plugs on the front for a Headset/Microphone, which would be perfect! They need to be plugged into audio pinouts on say, a motherboard for example which has on-board audio and comes with such pinout connectors...

However, I want to figure out how to connect them to my Sound Card!

My Sound Card has an open back with a bunch of tiny Pinout connectors in a row...

450

Obviously intended for connecting such expansion things to it, though I suspect these pinouts are primarily intended to be used with some sort of optional Drive Bay add-on accessory that Creative might sell.

Theoretically, it seems the audio connectors on the Case could be plugged into the Pinouts on the Sound Card, but I am not sure which Pinouts... for example, what is the risk of shorting something out if I connected the Case Audio connectors to the wrong Pinouts on the Sound Card?

Anyone out there have any experience with this?

Thank you, but I already have the Manual anyway, as it came with the Card when I bought it; and its not very helpful. All it has is an obscure page explaining how to hook up a front panel device like the one sold with the Champion Series of the Card.

Anyone else got any suggestions or experience getting their Audio ports on their CASE, plugged into these Cards?

It's the same PCB for your card. You just hook it up as it states in the image.

No that image is different from my Card.

Mine has a series of enclosed Pinouts to the right of of the X-Fi sticker on the edge of the card.

The PCB in the image above has the solder points for those Pinouts visible, but there are no Pinouts on the card in that picture.

Compare the PCB to the picture that I provided in my original post, the rear of the two cards is very different; however mine does not have any of its Pinouts labeled on its PCB.

Also the one in the second picture clearly has labeled "Front Panel" ... but.. even if that were what mine has, then WHICH individual pins on that section are used?

Thats what I'm trying to figure out, is which specific pins on my card are the ones I need to use.

I said the same PCB not the same card.

The pinouts are the same I assure you.

DSCN5915.jpg

Just connect the HDA connector to the first 2x5 pins on the left.

Yea that third (last) pic looks more like what I have on the rear of my card.

I'll take a look at it when I get home from work tonight, I don't remember my case having an HDA connector, but I could be mistaken... I just rewired the whole thing a few weeks ago when I replaced the Mobo, CPU and RAM; and did not at the time consider connecting the front panel audio plugs... so I bundled them with the rest of the excess cable slack that I left ziptied to the backside of the case, inside the opposite side panel.... and I seem to remember only seeing a wire coming from the headphone jack, with a single 2 pin plug on the end...

But either way, I now got finicky upstairs neighbors... who seem to have problems with the constant use of "Fus Ro Dah!" blasting out of my 280 watt Logitech z5300's.

Wish I could... Fus Ro Dah ... them, off their balcony! lol

Anyway, presuming I get the HDA connector figured out...

What do I then plug the MIC into, as it has a separate wire coming from the front panel with a 2 pin plug, and I don't see anything specifically labeled for MIC on either of the pic's.

you should use that as your sig

i recommend getting a flash light ash shining it under the cover as there looks to be writing on the pcb, you want to look for the one that says HD_audio or front panel . be careful what one you hook up as both have the same pin set but they're different plugs (one is yellow) read your manual as the online users guide states

Intel HD Front Panel Audio standard only.
Not compatible with AC97 or Intel-compatible HD Front Panel Audio

im guessing if you use the wrong plug you can damage your soundcard and/or wiring. if your part # is sb0886 you want the "lower" half of the pin cluster farthest from the pci-e connector labeled as 8 in the users guide form the creative pci express sound blaster xfi series users guide from creative's website

Yea, I found the HDA Connector from my Case, and got it connected to the Sound Card on the above described connectors, which WERE labeled "front panel" on mine, I just couldn't see them without the above suggested flashlight

I plugged in a cheap set of old headphones I have laying around, to the front panel; and the Creative software automatically detects them, switches to Headphone Output mode and automatically mutes the external 5.1 speakers.

However...

There is no sound...

I plug them into my Creative ZEN Mp3 player, and they work fine...

When I unplug them from the PC, the Creative software does automatically detect that the headphones were unplugged and automatically switches back to the 5.1 Speaker output mode...

But there is still no sound.

I can not get any sound back, unless I reboot the system.

it might be your *** (Front pannel Audio Port)
check your connection on what connector your using (ac'97 or HD)
disable your sound card and test it on that to rule out a card issue
