Ddr 500

Thread Starter
I was curious if DDR 500 is compatible in a pc3200 slot. I was offered some crucial ballistix memory and was unsure if I could use it.

I am fairly certain that the system will downclock the DDR500 to DDR400 speeds.

If someone is offering this RAM to you for free, then I would give it a shot.

If your system doesn't boot, then switch them back.

It definely will run, since the official rating only goes up to 400MHz (Eff.).
If you have problems booting with it, increase the voltage with your old ram, shut down the rig, and start up with the new ram.

You can run any speed memory you want. "DDR A Bezillion" memory will work! You just have to set the speed you want it at run at in your BIOS by setting FSB, multiplier, and divider.
FSB X Multi = CPU speed
FSB X Divider = memory speed
Note that as FSB changes, both CPU speed and memory speed change.
Control the CPU speed with multiplier and the memory speed with divider.
