BEST PC PARTS ever! (please list your best purchases and why) - Page 3

  1. My EVGA NVidia GTX 470 SuperClocked! This was the first time I had ever had "The Best" (Technically, it was the second-best single-GPU card on the market, or the third best card overall when I bought it, according to reviewers). I had always been 1 or 2 generations behind the state-of-the-art GPUs, and it was amazing to be at the very front of the pack for the first time in my life. I'm glad I got it out of my system, and it was worth every penny.
  2. My favorite part at the moment is my Core i7-3930K. Even though I paid full price for it... it didn't have to be cheap to be great. It has opened virtualization up to me, and is the first chip I have ever felt comfortable overclocking (at least, the first one that has ever tempted me to overclock it).
  3. My favorite part of all time so far, though, isn't necessarily a PC "part", but it is at least computer-related. It is my Asus Transformer TF-101A with the additional keyboard dock. I got it from Newegg as an "open box" deal, which saved me $100. I found the keyboard dock on Amazon on sale for $104, so I basically got the dock for free. After buying it and becoming comfortable with it (getting the Android apps that I needed), I ended up giving my netbook to my mom. It basically took the place of my netbook, doing everything I needed the netbook for (email, some web browsing, and keeping an eye on my servers). I even use it as a remote station for Synapse (my home computer) when I'm in need of the processor power but don't have access to it. I've had a lot of leg surgery lately and it has been a blessing to have a little tablet that has a keyboard, a nice ssh client (Better Terminal Emulator Pro), and TeamViewer, in addition to all the great entertainment uses it provides (mainly Netflix).

ATi 5770 price:performance at the time was great

My first build in it's entirety: $400 near-tripled my performance vs an outdated Dell I had. Worth every penny - just unfortunate that I'll likely be in an annual upgrade routine and never see such a performance increase again. Athlon II foreva

Seagate HDDs: Bought them (unknowingly) right before the uptick in prices
