Strange problem with screen

Hi I joined as my friend told me someone here might be able to help me figure out whats wrong with my monitor.

Basically the problem just started randomly, i was working in 3dsMax and Photoshop as usual, and it just went off, I tried to turn it back on but for about 3 seconds I get a wierd green/distorted image, then it goes off and the power light is flashing blue (it's usually solid blue), I tried a different monitor and that works.

I'm not sure what monitor it is but i won it on eBay in an auction for £90, it says Hazro on the front, it's glass fronted and quite big and it's a widescreen. I don't know what the native res is as all the ones I tried didn't look super sharp (available is 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x800, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200), i think it might be HD but my graphics card won't do HD.

The strange thing is I tried the monitor on my mates laptop and it worked fine on that, I tried to Google the problem but all the Google links just take me to some commercial ads search engine thingy, it's gone really crappy lately they need to sort it out.

anyways does anyone here have any idea what's wrong and how to fix it, I tried lightly thumping the computer as that has fixed stuff in the past, and taping the monitor quite hard to see if it's a loose connection but it doesn't seem to do anything

When you tried a different monitor, did you use a different VGA cable, or the same one that is hooked to the monitor with the problem?

Also, check your power connection on the back of the monitor, at the power strip, and at the wall.

Could just be a loose connection in the monitor, or something blew on the board.

That's always a hazard of using a no-name product.

did you try booting into safe mode? did you try a different monitor on your system? flashing power light could mean no input signal, which could be a non-functioning graphics card (dead card or driver corrupted)

if monitors work on a different system then it may be time to try reloading the driver and next a different graphics card
