I enjoy a good meme every now and then. It brings levity to the situation, and it gives me a good laugh.

Consider a single GTX580 at similar clocks on LN will pull in excess of 900W on load..

*These GPU's are more efficient and require less power..

My guess would be somewhere in the neighborhood of ~2800W for the 4-way.. GPU's only, for full load.

Thats way too much. It's definitely not consuming that much. a 580 is no where near efficient ESPECIALLY at similar clocks.

Plus proof or link to that 900w load? That cold of temps significantly reduces power consumption....

I think that's a bit optimistic, or pessimistic depending on how you look at it.

Granted, those 480s aren't on LN2 and may not be under load, but 900w sounds kind of ridiculous.

Proof is all over HWBOT. I know plenty of benchers personally that will attest to a single GTX580 pulling those figures on LN.. NO PROBLEM. Would you really like to drag the pros in here just to show you this.. i think not.

*just to satisfy all the other doubting thomas though..

^^Theres a post from Patch [currently ranked #1 in US on HWBOT and OCN member and friend].. stating that a good 700W is REQUIRED for benching +1300mhz core on GTX580. You need more proof.. do the mods and bench it.

** and DOUBLE LOLZ at your comment on cold affecting power consumption.. absolutely and insanely not even true in the slightest bit.

Your saying what.. ? Your pic is of GTX480's.. irrelevant.

It is good to see that Vantage scores have gone up. Now give us Haswell, the next gen AMD cards and run it again to hit 120K scores biggrin.gif

I never said it had to be quadfire. There would be a certain level of to have a LN2 24/7 rig.

Furthermore, if you are playing on extremely high resolution (multiple screens, down-sampling, screen supporting above 1080P) you need more juice. Also, when newer games come out, there may will be a demand for faster GPU's. Whether 7970 (or any card) under LN2 24/7 is worthwhile is entirely up to the individual.
