[KPC] Quad Xfire 7970 sub-zero - almost 100k GPU vantage score - Page 8

there is no such thing as 24/7 LN.. this is crazy talk.

*there are limits to money

*there are limits to getting LN

*there are limits for hardware temps and condensation build up

*none of the people posting on this thread are LN coolers it seems.

Furthermore, if you are playing on extremely high resolution (multiple screens, down-sampling, screen supporting above 1080P) you need more juice. Also, when newer games come out, there may will be a demand for faster GPU's. Whether 7970 (or any card) under LN2 24/7 is worthwhile is entirely up to the individual.

Nobody is running 24/7 LN2...

^^Theres a post from Patch [currently ranked #1 in US on HWBOT and OCN member and friend].. stating that a good 700W is REQUIRED for benching +1300mhz core on GTX580. You need more proof.. do the mods and bench it.

** and DOUBLE LOLZ at your comment on cold affecting power consumption.. absolutely and insanely not even true in the slightest bit.

Your saying what.. ? Your pic is of GTX480's.. irrelevant.

It's a video. 480s and 580s have similar power consumption, in this case it is ~1700w from the entire system.

WHAT? what planet are you from?

Do you bench LN? They are NO WHERE NEAR THE SAME !! Your trying to compare AIR on 480's with LN on 580's... get real

**PS- when was the last time you saw a GTX 480 doing +1500mhz core..? Ohh.. yeah, never.

where are the people who bench at?

Wow, chill bro. How do you know that a single 580 pulls north of 900w when loaded on LN2?

I know you meant quad. But, a quad AIR 480 setup would draw a lot less than 4 7970's under ln2.

its well known in the extreme community.. using 4-5 1200W PSU's is not all for show.

More proof: Tins review and guide on OC'ing GTX580's

Quote:
During extreme overclocking with GPU voltage above 1.4V GTX580 can take more than 700W of power, pushing power supply +12V rails to their limits on most of 1k-1.2kW models. So if we have just two rails from PSU connected to such overclocked monster - they can reach shutdown trigger by OCP, which will make overclocking session end. So extra 6-pin plug is there to give user ability to connect third rail to make power distribution on PSU rails easier.

3d'11 testing.. GT4 with SINGLE GTX580 AT 1200MHZ CORE

GT4 - 660-850W (!). Peak current from +12V is about 68-70 AMPs.

GPU's dont magically use more power in multiple configs.. so it makes perfect sense to compare single GPU figures.

Nice, thanks for the figures.
