< $1000 intel build

Thread Starter
For a very important friend. I havent been up to date with the new processors out so im lookin to you guys.

Lets say 2 builds.. if incases $1k too much... so 1 build for $1000 and one for $800. is it do-able? quality parts !

heard a lot of people talkin about the 2500K i5's. would that be best for this build?

on the side note, its for a girl, very mild gamer (best would probably be Diablo 3, then lower would be like DOTA, LoL, etc)

i know its for a girl and she doesnt live with me (yet *being hopeful hehe*) and she lives in another city. i want to leave overclockablilty an option so if in cases when i go up there, i can work on it and oc.

tower only. no need for keyboard, mouse, monitor. she has a bose speaker system on her old computer with a sound card but would stock be enough? ive always used stock and they sound fine for me.

id probably go for the hydro series from corsair for heatsink.. its quiet.. push/pull very quiet for me. tho i need to teach her how to clean it xD

for the $1k build, this is what i came up with. not actual products for HD ($100) , case ($90) , and psu ($90)... just place holders for price

Asus P8P67 Deluxe ($210)
i5 2500k ($220)
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4gb) DDR3 1600 (2 sets) (49 x 2 = $98)
Corsair Builder 600W ($70)
eVGA GTX550 Ti ($145)
WD Caviar Blue 320GB ($100)
LG Blu-Ray Drive ($60)
Antec 300 ($60)
Corsair CWCH60 ($75)

sums up to $1002.91

For a mild overclock I suggest going a cheaper route or even dropping to an i3 and skipping OC entirely.

Better Placeholders (Sale prices):
Most deals found @ NCIX/Newegg

Case (50-100+) depending on what you end up getting
btw Antec 300's really arent that expensive, at that price get a HAF 912
or go for a NZXT 210 (~35)

750w PSU (50-60)
ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 (120) newegg
i5 2500k (200) ncix or combo deal/promo @ newegg
Hyper 212+ EVO (30)
4x4GB RAM @ 1600 CL9 (60-70) Though you should really just get 8gb and invest the $30 in something else newegg
Radeon HD 6950 2GB (210)
Blu Ray (60) really?
1TB HDD (100) or get a Crucial M4 64GB (if you have storage to spare or don't need 1TB)

Total: ~900 depending on the deals you actually get.

Just going to say 4.5GHz easy with ~60*C temps on max load and ~50*C while gaming.
~1.30-1.38v depending on how lucky you are.

If you're making a budget build use slickdeals.net its the best site as 8gb of ram is ~$30 nowadays and you won't need more than that. As for case, you can get one for 50-70 and PSU, maybe cheaper, and for HDD, the floods in Thailand screwed you over in that department, so find the cheapest, and use the money you save for a better gpu (again slickdeals will help you here... I saw a 6870 for 130 I believe)

Good luck with the gf smile.gif mines quit gaming, so I just have to stick to stuffed animals and cute thingamabobs every 2 months or so tongue.gif

Edit: get a cheap air cooler for CPU, hyper 212+ for ~$25 off a deal, or $35 normally
