“ASUS has been working hard to make the highly anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich available on the Transformer Prime, and today, we have good news for you. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich FOTA worldwide update for the Transformer Prime will start from Jan 12th, 2012. Thank you for your patience and support through this process. ” – ASUS

Just note:
Quote:
this wont necessarily come to you, the owner of a brand new Transformer Prime THAT DAY, but the update will start then

Update:

ASUS Facebook Page:
http://www.facebook.com/ASUS/posts/300815559961849

ASUS comments on the GPS function and the issue caused by (according to them) the metal unibody. The GPS functionality is not removed, just not marketed anymore:
Quote:
The ASUS Transformer Prime is made from a metallic unibody design, so the material may affect the performance of the GPS when receiving signals from satellites. Please note that this product is not a professional GPS device, and signal performance can be easily influenced by factors including, but not limited to: weather, buildings, and surrounding environments. Please understand there are limitations when using the GPS function. To avoid inconveniencing users who demand a powerful GPS device, we made the decision to remove it from our specification sheet and marketing communications. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

The only reason I was holding out. Can't wait to see if Asus comes through with the unlock.

At least by the time I get my ASUS transformer prime (on pre-order at Amazon), the update will be in full swing and I can update soon after unboxing. Now I just have to patiently wait 4-6 weeks... Estimated shipping date is Feb 1st - Feb 15th. I had to wait 8 weeks (ordered Aug 21st and received it Oct 16th) to get my Touchpad when I ordered it from HP, so I guess 4-6 weeks isn't too bad.

Yeah, I'm looking at about the same timespan as you - ordered a day after launch, expected delivery in the first week of Feb according to Amazon's site. Some folks have been getting notification that the product will ship earlier than expected (usually arriving next day after that notice) but we've obviously not been so lucky.

I guess they showed one on newegg yesterday, but were gone in less than 15 minutes. Best buy now has the 32Gb version (last I checked about 9 hrs ago), but with tax is only $50 less than the 64Gb version I preordered on Amazon.
