Monitors for triple monitor setup

I've been kind of back and forth on getting a triple monitor setup going for sim racing, and I've finally decided I'm going to do it. I can't really decide which monitor to purchase though. The only requirements I have are that the monitors are 28" or less, have the VESA mounting holes since the monitors will be mounted, and that input lag is at a minimum. My budget is pretty flexible, though I'd prefer to keep it under $1000 for the three monitors combined.

Anything better out there? It could be smaller too, though I'd like 1920x1080/1200 at least. Obviously I don't need perfect image quality but if there's something better out there, shoot me a link. smile.gif

I've also been looking for a triple monitor setup primarily for sim racing. I can offer my opinions on a few monitors I have tried. Most of my sim racing has been done on a 40" Samsung TV for the past few years. A few months back I ordered 3 Dell u2312hm monitors. They were OK, but I had two gripes. 23" was a bit small in my opinion and I noticed lots of motion blur. The pseudo 120Hz TV does look much smoother. I could have lived with the size, but not the motion blur so I returned them. Next, I ordered 3 Asus VG278H monitors. This is basically a 120Hz version of the VG276Q you have shown. There is also a VE278Q with LED backlight.

I have three things to say about the VG278H.
1. 27" is perfect for a triple screen setup
2. 120Hz is amazing. The difference between playing iRacing at 60FPS and 120FPS is astonishing.
3. The monitors themselves were terrible so I returned them. http://www.overclock.net/t/1179486/vg278h-backlight-bleed

The only concern I would have with the VE276Q is the viewing angles. They should be adequate if you sit back 36-40" and tilt the side monitors in slightly(10-15 degrees).

Oh wow that is bad. I checked your thread and the thread over at [H] and that's pretty piss poor quality by ASUS. Not something I could deal with. I wonder if all the monitors are like that, or if it is just the VG278H?

Maybe Frys has these in stock. I'd buy locally because I know I could take them back if they looked terrible.

Well if you are going to get a triple monitor setup, why not get some good monitors? smile.gif I would recommend one of the smaller Dell Ultrasharps because of they are IPS, and are perfect for viewing angles in eyefinity. I think right now the U2412M is $250 refurb from Dell with the normal 3 year warranty. You can also get the U2311H which a lot of people here use.

How is the input lag on those though? I wouldn't be against expanding the budget and getting IPS panels (and I'm pretty sure the Dell monitors have the VESA mounting holes as well) but if I can feel any input lag at all, it'll be unacceptable.

I think U2311H is not produced anymore and is replaced by U2312HM. It basically the same monitor with LED backlight and few bits sawed off to make it little sheaper (some preset color profiles less, etc)

For 1000$ you should be able to get away with 5x U2312HM if you find suitable site with some discount and low shipping costs. 5400x1920 wink.gif

Edit: Yeah these have VESA mounts as well. The stands they come with are also pretty awesome. I was considering using the VESA mounts to wall mount these but eventually opted instead to use the stands they came with as that way it was possible to get them around the spot I usually sit in a slightly curved way so the monitors are more perpendicular to my line of sight and in more equal distance from my eyes.

Using the stands they came with the monitors will fit on a table of 1,5 meters in length. Five of them form a display array with diagonal of 79,5'' or roughly 2 meters and resolution of 5400x1920.

Samsung MD230 is a 23'' 1920x1080 8ms C-PVA monitor, costing around US$437.  Its main strength is the thin bezel 7.6mm (vs 19 to 23mm of most monitors, Asus VE276Q is 22.9mm).

I've got three 24in 1920x1080 ASUS VW246H and a Chief 325B triple monitor mount... It's a great setup and I've never had any problems with it. Total cost was $840 for the whole thing too. Setup looks like this... You definitely need a beast gfx card to power it though... I don't notice any input lag either

Hmm, the U2312HM has just about zero input lag, which is very nice. That looks promising. That five monitor setup looks killer, but I'm kind of in a box here. The monitors are going on an Obutto (thank you iRacing sponsor!! biggrin.gif) so I'm pretty much limited to three monitors in landscape orientation.

I would steer clear of monitor combinations where one of the bezels will sit between your eyes. While bezels are easy to ignore if they are not in the spot where you focus most it will get annoying fast if the bezel is sitting in the middle of your crosshair. Might be a bit less of an issue for driving or flying sims but for FPS I would say that using 3x1 or 5x1 is the most optimal way in my opinion as far as Eyefinity goes.

DELL U2312HM is also relatively thin bezel model. Not as good as 7 mm ofc - more like ~16 mm or so but on the other hand it's only ~200$ as well (can get them as low as 165 euros in here and that is with 20% VAT tax).
