at what PPI level will we start to lose productivity benefits due to law of diminishing marginal returns?

Has anyone studied this?

my u2410 has PPI of 94, U3011 has 101. And the IBM T221 has PPI of 205.

At what level of PPI will we start to see a increasing diminishing marginial return to a point where the benefit in productivity does not outweight the cost of the increasing unit of PPI level? I think there there is no point going beyond 105 for computer monitors. I had U2711 and I find the PPI too high at 109, everything was just too small and I want to keep a workable distance between my eyes and the monitors, monitors aren't phone.

What is your take on this issue.

I think anything under 85 appears jagged. I don't see a problem with a high PPI because you can always increase font size, icon size, or zoom in on websites and the added resolution will just make for more detail when desired. Therefore, I think the general consensus is 24" = ideal for 1080p. 27" should have at least 1200p unless you want 120hz for 3D or gaming smoothness.
