Transformer Prime screen burn - Page 2

Thread Starter
Seeing as I have no other primes to compare it to at work as the release isn't actually till the 12th so we have no other stock, I ask if anyone else with a prime or an original transformer could test their own screens (or another normal led tablet for that matter). Use the following setup if you could:

1. Turn off wifi and set the screen so that it doesn't auto turn off.
2. leave the tablet on a home screen with something with white text on, weather app and twitter are good for this.
3. wait 5 minutes.
4. load up the market, as you've turned wifi off you'll be given a blank light grey screen with no connection written on it, the grey screen however will show up and screen burn/image retention you screen might have.

Report back if you guys have any burn in yourselves.

Im not too bothered by it TBH, you can only see it faintly on light grey backgrounds, once I get more stock in at work I can check it myself but until then any feeback from other owners would be good.

I would like to stress though that this tablet is brilliant. Great construction, really responisve and with the update to ICS soon itll be even better. I've had no WIFI issues at all and I don't use the GPS so I couldn't care less about any issue relating to it.

PLEASE don't let my curse with screens put you off buying this tablet, it is the best android tablet, and to me the best tablet overall currently available.

I'll answer any questions I can about it as well if people are unsure. smile.gif

EDIT: would like to add that we did a similar test with a Samsung 6 series LED tv where we left the ceefax football scores up on it and it retained the text for a little while after switching back to normal channels.

Well I work at Comet here in the UK and its the 12th for us, same for Currys/PCworld and most online retailers here in the UK as well, 32gb model with Keyboard dock only though most likely grey as well.

Yes I used the original at work alot whilst demoing to customers, and I actually sold one to my dad. The prime is a great improvement on the original and I look forward to trying out ICS on it on the 12th.

Big difference between the two? I got the TF101 for my gf for Christmas, and I really want to get the Prime for myself. I can check out the screen thing on it this evening.

Design wise its alot more sleek, doesnt have the bezel plastic bezel around it. No plastic at all actually, the entire device is glass and brushed metal which looks great so it feels more sturdy. Its thinner as well and the screen is much brighter than the original. The CPU is the main difference I guess, the tegra 3 quad really makes everything seem smoother when using the honeycomb UI.

Ice cream sandwhich update confirmed for the 12th as well which will make it the first ICS tablet as well.

Yeah that's what I read (about ICS). I'm looking forward to updating her Transformer with it and see how it does with it. I feel like I had something more specific to ask you, but I forgot. When I eventually remember, I'll post back. Thanks for the info. smile.gif

Update for ya: I tried what you asked on my gf's original Transformer and the white lettering didn't appear to be burned in. I saw the grey screen and nothing was over it at all. Just an FYI for ya.

Thanks for trying smile.gif

Im pretty sure ive just been unlucky yet again, the bottom of my screen also appears to have a yellow tint to it when viewing this forum for example. Just gonna wait till the stock turns up at work and swap it for a new one. Its a brilliant tablet aside from me getting a dud screen, its not enough to make me want to get rid of it anyway cus I know im just cursed when it comes to screens lol

I'll give an update next week when I get it swapped out.
