PC under performing??!!!

Thread Starter
First off I got the 650watt cooler master ( Yes I know, **** me tongue.gif) and I overclocked my GPU, the sapphire HD 5770.

Haven't done anything to my CPU yet, was wondering if that PSU can handle overclocking. Its the i7-960, i think its stock clock speed is 3.2Ghz

But thats not the problem, the problem is the alot of new games are slow as hell. I got Dead Island, at 1080p that **** can only run SMOOTHLY (No stuttering) at medium settings.

LA noire won't even run properly at all, even at 1600x900. Borderlands stutters and drops to ~48 fps sometimes, all set to high, turned off the fancy **** like ambient occulsion and AA.

Deux ex doesn't feel smooth at a reasonable settings at 1080p, and I've disabled mouse acceleration. Rage is just awful, at 1600x900 too. Crysis 2 won't play on the second lowest settings.

WHY??!!! Is my computer not good enough??? I've seen people on youtube run my GPU better with a dual core???!!! The only game that works like a dream is Skyrim, and even than shadows are only high and there is no AA. If so what do I need to upgrade??? I've got 12 gigs of RAM ( I can remove 4 to make it 8GB if it helps).

:"(

The 5770 is a low-end budget card, however Borderlands and LA Noire are console ports, I also had problems with Borderlands before and I heard that LA Noire has a 30 FPS Cap (lolwut). So your best bet is get a better GPU. (7970 biggrin.gif?)

LA Noire does have a 30fps cap. It doesn't really need more than that for the way the game is played, though.
In progress.

I would probably help if you posted a 3dmark06/Vantage/11 benchmark result link so we could look down at the break down of scores GPU vs CPU. See exactly what's not performing up to par.

The videocard is a little low-end for modern 1080p gaming, but I wouldnt rule out something like overheating CPU or software issues.

Yeah, I reckon it's your GPU. Those games would run smoothly at medium-high settings with something more like a HD6870 or GTX 550Ti.

hmmmmm, just saw the don't sell HD 5770 anymore at my countries store. They sell HD 6770's I think.

Well I guess its time to upgrade and since ATI won't pay **** to developers I should probably get nVidia, plus PhysX is cool.

Anything around 300-400$?? biggrin.gif

Do you have a link to where you'll be buying? In what country?

Also, 6770's are basically rebranded 5770's; it's the same card.

For 1080p you should look into a "bigger" card, like a:

HD 6870:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948

HD 6950:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125385

or

GTX 560ti:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125401

With your cpu, any one of those cards would be like night/day with your current 5770.

As the best "budget option, one of the good 6850's would also be a very very good upgrade:
HD 6850:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908

The 6850's are as powerful as GTX 460's, use less power and generally overclock like mad.

Good luck. thumb.gif

Would you mind telling us every single spec of your PC? Or fill up the Rig Builder for us smile.gif It will help a lot!

For 300-400 USD, I would get a 6970. Though, at this point of time, it is much wiser to get a 2nd hand 5850 (which will run those games very very well tbh) and wait for the HD7000 series to arrive.

Or just wait for the HD7000s.

With my old 4890 Borderlands would drop to the 20's.. so a drop to 48 is not bad at all. Actually I think I still see a drop to the 40's with my 6950 on occasion.
