Netgear powerline adapter not working with AMD Llano HTPC! - Page 2

sorry differnt time zones ^_^,

try ping 192.168.1.1, If this works try pinging 192.168.1.15 (your laptop), then if this works try browsing to 192.168.1.1,

Failing this once connected to the powerline goto the routers conifig page from another computer that can access it and look for connected clients, this will show you if your router can see the htpc.

DHCP is on as your getting a IP address which is right (unless you set this up?) DHCP is just a way on configuring the network automaticaly

One thing tho it is the same brand of powerline adapter isnt it? (stupid quesin i know but we had some in our student house someone bought the wrong model number and it didnt play nice xD)

Thanks for the help so far!

Yes they are all the same adapters bought together as a kit, same brand and model mentioned in the OP!

Will try the rest once I get back home and post the results!

Okay here are the results of the ping tests, HTPC was connected via the power line adapter and laptop was wireless, that is how you wanted me to test right:

Well my laptop IP changed , HTPC was connected via the power line adapter and laptop was wireless, that could have changed the IP anyways now it was 192.168.1.14 38

So I pinged both 14 and 15:

Don't think the first one worked but I tried browsing anyways - no luck there!

Checked from the laptop to see if the router can see the HTPC when connected with the power line adapter and yes it can:

I'm lost as to what seems to be the issue here, any ideas?

I tried something different and I now have an idea what is causing the problem.

I compared all the installed programs on the HTPC (not working with the PLA) and the laptop (working with the PLA). It was fairly easy because the laptop just had a fresh install of windows and does not have a lot of apps installed and the HTPC, I have only installed media related stuff on it, so there was not a lot to compare between!

After this slightly tedious exercise I found that essentially there were a couple of security applications that were installed on the HTPC but not on the laptop, and I started installing them on the laptop, one by one and checking the PLA connection status after each installation/reboot!

I caught it on the 3rd application, which was a security suite from Comcast (my ISP) called Constant Guard, which I installed basically because it gave me Norton Security Suite for free! The Laptop had Norton 60-day trial pack pre installed and hence did not have the constant guard installed on it!

So after the Constant Guard install on the laptop I now have the exact same situation with the laptop as I have the HTPC and the PLA - Unidentified network and no internet access. So I'm pretty sure that is the culprit! Now I tried to fix this with an uninstall of the same program, using Revo Uninstall Pro, and all that came along with it (Xfinity Tool Bar, Norton etc), and then trying to reset the Internet settings to default, but no luck with that. Still PLA not working with either system!

I am waiting for an SSD to be delivered for the laptop on Monday, so not too worried about that, I'll be doing a fresh install on that next week and I'll just not install the Constant Guard again and I'm sure that would fix it, and my laptop would work again with the PLA!

I don't want to do a fresh install on the HTPC to fix this, if there is another way. Any advice guys, on what to do to fix it?

I would also try a registry cleanup (possible registry files from the security suite still hanging around causing problems). Had that happen with a virus recently, removed all the spyware, but until I fixed the registry entries it still had problems.
