Anyway, someone already said this, but I second a vote for a T2i/550D, 18-55mm, 55-250mm, and 50mm f/1.8 for his bokeh (that made me chuckle wink.gif ) Sure the 600D has a flippy screen, but in general it's the same as the 550D. IF you must take video from a long distance away, the T3i has a nice 3-10x digital zoom that doesn't hurt the quality too bad. However, I seriously doubt you're going to need that kind of range plus you can't really hand-hold at that point (250mm x 1.6 x 10 = 4000mm eq FOV).
Cheers.

theres no such thing as digital zoom. you can just crop a normal image and get the same effect.

I was speaking specifically about the T3i's movie mode. There is a function labeled "Digital Zoom" where you can effectively create a FOV equivalent to 3-10x your focal length times crop factor. At 3-5x, there is no quality loss because the camera simply makes use of the full capability of its sensor (1920x1080 = ~2MP, but the T3i sensor can do 18MP). Quality does degrade a bit as you approach 10x because then it is also employing digital enlarging of the image. I realize that the term "digital zoom" is a bit of a misnomer, but why are you complaining about semantics?

That feature is there on the T2i as well. Its not named digital zoom though i believe. You just press the magnification button and it "zooms in" or "zooms out" in video mode.

The T2i has a video "crop" mode, but it is quite inferior to the T3i. The OP said he was interested in video so I was pointing out that the T3i has some advantages in that area even though they are minor. On the T2i, the camera crops 640x480px from the center of the sensor. It does not interpolate or "combine" pixels from the entire sensor and this can make noise and other artifacts much more visible. This multiplies the effective focal length by about 7.2x though. Unfortunately, you're only getting VGA movies in that case, not HD. The T3i's method is much better.

because "digital zoom" is often confused with real optical zoom. Many think that digital zoom takes and image and does some "CSI" style rendering to make a zoomed image with no IQ penalties. as a forums where people often research, i just felt the need to make clear what digital zoom generally does.

I just gone to Canon, and held the 60D and the 600D. The 60D Definitely feels better.

I know, I don't get why you keep wasting your time looking at crappy gear if you want good stuff...

Get Primary
  1. 60D
  2. Sigma 17-50mm F/2.8
  3. Canon 70-200 F/4 Non IS
  4. Good sturdy tripod and head
  5. A few batteries and 16-32GB SD cards

Secondary
  1. Sigma 30mm F/1.4
  2. Kenko 1.4X lens extender for the 70-200 if you want
  3. Flash of your choosing (maybe 2 or 3) I suggest a YN-565 due to wireless capabilities with the 60D
  4. Flash stand and softbox (Look into it)
  5. Maybe a good wired or wireless mic set up for your blogs?

Any thing to say about that? Besides price? B/c you won't need to "upgrade" anything.
