I would say it is because they no longer make PEE 965's any more, so newegg cant lower the price any.

That's what I would say too, although I don't think they are down to 0 production on the 9xx series yet, I think next year is when they will shut down all production of NetBurst CPUs, the fact is, very few are being made and soon none will be made. This is simple supply and demand......remember, you can;t just buy a C2D and plug it into any motherboard......so the demand for NetBurst LGA775 will still be there for some time.

Why is a stick of DDR 400 the same price as a stick of DDR2 800? Obviously the 800 speed is better. Yet there are many, many platforms still using DDR and the part is in demand, yet the companies don't make as many.....

Also, you are not buying the CPU direct from Intel, you are buying it from a retailer, a retailer that bought 500 of those CPUS at $X.XX a while ago......the fact that they can buy 500 X6800s now for less does not change what they already paid for the 965s last month. Perhaps the 965 will drop again as current stock is depleated.....

Prices are set by Intel.

If Intel decides to drop the ball on the EE, then egg will have a lower price but it doesn't seem like it'll happen any time soon.
