I did get invited but i just don't know if i am required to own the previous versions? This isn't a DLC right? I just wanted to be sure before i install the horrid Windows Live program!

It's an entirely separate game. The beta is the base for Microsoft FLIGHT that will be released for free and expanded upon using DLC's.

I'm looking into P3D for the future of flight sim. Or Xplane X

Just got the 737NGX so fsx is here to stay on my PC for a few years to come yet.
As for FLIGHT? I think I'll pass

Is because I don't have a ODD on my sigrig and there is no way I am copying something like MS FS onto my laptop then onto a memory stick/external HDD then onto my sigrig to install. I would rather just download it and install it and the only way I can do that legally is though something like Steam.

I usually download my games through amazon.

I am invited to the open beta and it turns out it's a stand alone game not just a dlc. I gotta say graphics are way better than you think but the gameplay is sorta boring and everything is so limited! I might not get it until i see the full version cuz i am a helicopter guy!

When M$ gave PMDG the finger, FLIGHT became a certain NO-GO!
Without PMDG developing for FLIGHT, there won't be a 737NGX or a 747-800, nor will there be a Flight Sim Labs ConcordeX. Without these third party addon's from top end devs, FLIGHT won't be used by the majority of current hardcore flight simmers

Must say i love the flight simulator series...I've had them all upto fsx including hundreds of add-ons. I used to play them as a kid with my old man. Its such a shame theres no decent new flight simulators out there, i'm sure the demand would still be high. Another dissapointment was Combat flight simulator 3 and every other combat flight sim since.

I still play FSX with REX 2.0 to update the clouds and water graphics and it still plays great, i would just love to see an updated version with better graphics (dx11) and more detailed airports that dont have flickering textures. I can finally play FSX with everything maxed out at really good FPS (around 130fps+) apart from low GPU useage around busy airports which kills the FPS to around 30 with my current setup. If FLIGHT is free i'll try it but i wont be buying any DLC if its rubbish.

Does anyone know of a good flight simulator out at the moment thats newer than fsx?

Check out Prepar3D (pronounced Prepared)
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/347769-prepar3d/

Its a commercial product, hence the $500 price tag, but they have a $10 monthly developer subscriptions.
Lockheed Martin bought the rights from Microsoft to the code behind FSX, so unlike FSX, Prepar3D is moving forward in terms of development.
Also, third party developers such as ORBX and REX have said they will be supporting Prepar3D which makes it a good upgrade for FSX users.

I have it and I've got the PMDG 737NGX working in full swing, along with REX and the UK2000 airports thumb.gif

Oh man thats expensive! I'm not that fussed! FSX will do for now smile.gif It's just a shame a product with such high demand isn't being developed for us gamers. There doesn't seem to be any PC games like there used to be...they are all consol ports frown.gif

My current rig has an ODD, but my next one will not.

Nothing keeps me from having a SATA ODD on my closet for those occasions that need making use of one.

...I swear I saw this exact post on the AVSim forum...

...I may just be going crazy...

Keep in mind, $10 a month for two copies of the game is actually a very reasonable price.
