DDR 500 not reconizing?

Thread Starter
Hi. I guess this is a noob question but i just bought some OCZ DDR 500 dual channel ram. Now my mb is an MSI Neo-4F and it says it only does DDR 400. When i start up the computer it says the ram is DDR400. Now because of my OC it says i'm running the ram at 247 (247x10). Everything is fine but i was just wondering why the mb didn't pickup and say the ram is DDR 500? Do i need to update the bios? Is the MB too old? If that is the case what mb's support DDR500 (939 socket). And i'm guessing i'm losing speed by running it at DDR400 vs DDR500? Thanks.

The DDR500 name only means it is guaranteed to run at 250FSB (500 effective) 1:1 with the CPU. Unless you OC it will only be DDR400.

Oh i c. So when my computer boots up it will only say DDR400 and not DDR500. So bascially your telling me that every motherboard will pickup DDR500+ as DDR400 but the DDR500+ will be able to run higher speeds? Is this correct?

Quite so! The higher the DDR### or PC#### is just a speed rating that shows how fast the RAM is guaranteed to run, doesn't mean some DDR400 can't exceed DDR500+ speeds though.

your able to oc it to ddr 500 again and maybe farther depending on the memory.

i also have 2x1 gb of ddr500 (pc4000) and when i boot up it's being recognized (yes thats how you write that word OP!) as ddr400, but when i go into cpu-z ín the memory tab it shows me 500mhz 3-3-2-8 @ 2.6v, my dual channel kit can be pushed to 560 mhz with 2.8v
hey wutang: what exactly is the name of your memory? is it the gold edition? or the platinum? or..
