Lost the urge to play games, need to enjoy playing games again. - Page 3

This year looks promising for the MMO genre hopefully it's not a bust, I know how you feel, I'm an MMOanything/RPG/Action/Adventure game addict, but nothing in the past few years has caught my eye, except Skyrim but that was comparable to a Quicky, fast, fun, doesn't last long.

Look into TERA, Blade and Soul Dojo, they may be making some major improvements to FFXIV, aswell as some others I recommend MMOBOMB (Free2PLay) and MMOHDTV(pay2play) on youtube to get info. Also figure out what aspects you like about the games and which developers cater to those likes. I know it's close to 8 years old but I find myself running back to Final Fantasy XI, cause I love hard games with the grind and the STATIC grouping and the penalties for dying and what not but thats me.

and the last and most important thing which I've always noticed turns me off from games if its not there, MMOs are social whether it be your real life friends or a group of random guys on your server, i'm not talking a guild though I'm talking people you can call up tell them they need to be on to get **** done and get mad loot and ventrilo it up (hence why the static is capitalized above).

Too many WoW mechanic clones are on the market because people stick to the formula, tried and true but flat out slam your head against a wall boring ****, even although it's got more to it, but even SWTOR is like that (May be flamed but it's true).

And if all else fails maybe gaming this day and age isnt for you anymore, maybe when the next big innovative market, breaking status quo destroying, TRUE WoW Killer game comes out (which I hope is soon) You'll be sucked into the irresistible gravitational pull of that blackhole game that'll create it's own playerbase by it's sheer awesomeness. or atleast a guy can hope I know I have my fingers crossed.

I was going through this for a while and just recently came out of it. Pretty much just stopped playing for a while and continued watching Starcraft Streams and Cod/Halo/Wow videos during my hiatus. Slowly the urge began to grow inside my again and I just started playing again. Feels great to be back into gaming biggrin.gif I've loved it for so long. (Also! Going to a convention such as PAX Prime/ Dreamhack/MLG events help a lot to because you're basically submerging yourself into the culture.)

Well OP, I think a great option for you is to get some friends (they don't have to be people that you personally know, they could just be random people on the internet) that like to play the same kind of games as you. I would just join a clan that has an active voIP server (like ventrillo) and make some friends. I joined a Crysis 1 clan with about 10 people in it, and it has now expanded to over 50. You get something to look forward to when you want to play a game. Our clan plays lots of FPS (like BF3) and it's fun to be at the top of the scoreboard with your squad, or just laugh about stupid things that happen to you in the game. It also fun to try out stupid mods in older games and play with the console stuff. To give you an example, our clan does stupid mods for Crysis 1, so sometimes you will be literally ROFLing.

I have been in your position before though when I had an Xbox 360, and I just went away to a summer camp for a week. After that I was just dying to play games.

If you still just can't get into it though, I would find a new hobby possibly. Maybe you can come back to the whole "gaming" thing after a longer period of time. Remember, it's not bad that you're stepping away from gaming at all. It's perfectly fine.

Hope this helps biggrin.gif

You're just tired of games at the moment. It happens, happened to me, will happen again. I found my love again with RPG's, Skyrim, New Vegas, etc. Take a break from the games, try and pick up another hobby! And you may find yourself not coming back, and that's perfectly fine. I've lost interest in gaming as I got older. I have also gotten increasingly picky about what games I will play and enjoy, when I used to be able to play almost any game and have fun with it. Back in the 90s I'd see a game that looked cool, grab it and play it. I just don't do that anymore. I went from a pretty open minded gamer, to a very narrow minded gamer. In a way I feel like I've sorta been alienated by the gaming industry, seeing as how they make few games that appeal to my tastes anymore. I used to enjoy JRPGs, and I feel like that entire genre of gaming has gone to complete crap. Its completely gone off the deep end. I'm not really that impressed with WRPGs either, although they haven't took as much of a nose dive as JRPGs. It kinda sucks they don't make WRPGs like Baldur's Gate 2 anymore. I used to enjoy FPSs that had decent campaigns, now I can't stand to play them anymore. The closest thing to a FPS I played in recent years I actually enjoyed was borderlands.

On another note, I hate it when they make single player RPGs feel like MMORPGs. That definitely turns me off very quickly. I don't want to feel like I'm playing a solo MMO. I hate it when they just take a game and fill it with a bunch of pointless fetch and kill X number of enemies quests. In some cases they take that to such an extreme that its a 20 hour game if you cut all the pork out but its 100+ hours to do all the pointless fetch quests, where nearly every person you talk to asks you to kill X number of monsters or get them X number of X items, or etc, its ridiculous.

Every so often I get bored of specific games, and sometimes just of gaming in general. Stop playing for a while, don't try to make yourself play. If it doesn't interest you, don't do it. After a while either a new game will come along or you'll discover a game thats been around and you'll be back in to it.

I recently started playing Minecraft again. I got it back when it was in alpha and played all the way until the beta 1.8 release. I kind of lost interest and didn't want to make the effort to put all my old mods back in so I stopped playing. Now that the full release is out I'm having a ton of fun with it. And I put some of my old mods back in biggrin.gif

Also happened to me with call of duty (its my secret pleasure). Black ops didn't do it for me, I pretty much stopped playing games over the summer but now that I have MW3, I'm really liking it. When/if I get bored of Minecraft and MW3 I plan to get back in to BF3.

Yup..I know this slump. I started playing racing Sims and love it. Also started playing flight Sims as well. Both are very rewarding to play. I get way more satisfaction playing these than other games.
