Lost the urge to play games, need to enjoy playing games again. - Page 4

Don't play MMO's, they are massive time sinks that cannot give quick short enjoyable sessions of play (not talking about the community, the actual game).
Look at Indie games, especially the more classical arcade style games that challenge quick thinking and response times.
Invest some time in a good single player game that can give you accomplishment.

Work on a real life project that stresses your mind and challenges you.
Your brain is probably just really bored and needs a mental challenge to get back into the grove. Doing the same thing over and over is tedious and slows down the activity of your brain making you feel bored, tired, and makes it difficult to experience that adrenaline rush of being involved in an activity.

Don't keep playing a game just because you own it, use your time wisely.
Get some exercise, it promotes a healthy body and mind that allows your imagination to evolve and grow so you can really dive into a game and enjoy it as an experience.

if i got it wrong, you bought Portal 2 but didnt play it.

your first step should be playing that, its amazing.

and if you did play it, try some indie games like Bastion, LIMBO, Trine 2.

Motivation to play games comes and goes with games available to keep your attention.

View this as a blessing to spend your time doing other things that you may not otherwise do, and just wait patiently for something to come along.

Did you try Deus Ex Human Revolution?

Same here. I don't think there's anything surprising about it - the more you play, the more gaming experience you have, the more picky you become. The only games I really, really liked in the recent years are relatively small indie games. Big, expensive mainstream pieces of junk just don't cut it for me. There's zero originality in mainstream games nowadays, everything is simplified and rehashed to the point of being absurd. I mean I've been playing games for 15+ years and the modern gaming industry is a pathetic joke - big companies cater to inexperienced casual gamers, veterans and gamers with some degree of taste and experience don't matter to them. Fortunately, the indie game scene is becoming stronger with each year and I'm reasonably sure that in the future the big publisher will cater even more to the casual gamer, whereas indie games is where you're going to find some fresh ideas, fresh gameplay mechanics and just some damn good games.

The closest thing to a FPS I played in recent years I actually enjoyed was borderlands

Funny thing is, I've replayed Doom, Doom 2 and Heretic twice this year. The graphics may be old (though by no means ugly, the aesthetics of these games are superb), but the gameplay is absolutely timeless.

I think it's normal to go through slumps. I'm kind of in one myself right now. Turned 24 in December and I'm about to start a 24 month radiography program in school and I just can't seem to enjoy anything I play. Whenever I do play I only play for like an hour or two at most.

I say you take a break for a while....then come back into it playing some classics for your past that you REALLY enjoyed for less than an hour a week to get back into things.
