budget graphics card for 46 inch tv screen

Thread Starter
Hey, i'm getting a 46 inch tv monitor real soon and want to upgrade my graphics card (9800gtx) to something a bit more suitable. As I understand ati are better because they generally are more budget worthy and work better with higher res and nvidia offers better general performance. Correct me if i'm wrong please.

I was eyeing this card though :

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=59502&vpn=01G-P3-1557-KR&manufacture=eVGA

Is there anything in particular i might want to be looking for when i'm buying a bigger screen? I'll probably want to do some gaming on it, nothing too intense though.

thanks,
blue

If that is your price range I would get a GTX460, those outperform the 550Ti's.

The screen can be 1 inch or 100 feet...size for once...doesnt matter...its all about screen resolution...will you be playing it in 1080p???

also what is your budget and what games do u plan on playing???

Well as I understand, bigger tvs can be run at several reso's? My friend has a 52 inch samsung and runs it at 1920x 1080 and it looks great.

Dunno for games, i just play some steam games and starcraft 2 sometimes, but those run on max with my 9800 gtx so I know anything i get after this will be fine.

Edit : Yeah the GTX460 is fine budget wise.

The TV won't be above "full HD" rolleyes.gif (I hate that term)

Check benchmarks for 1080p at the games you want to play and see if you like the performance. You should be fine with the 550ti though, it is a decent budget card.

Full 1080, At least a HD5850 or HD5870. GTX 460 1gb is also a good choice!

I'm a little lost. How do you know when a game is running at 1080p. Doesn't the resolution determine if you're on 1080p or not? What do you mean by full hd.

thanks.

thanks.

Unlike monitor, most TV can only do 1080p (aka 1920 x 1080). It won't do resolution higher than that. You can have larger TV and it still does 1080p.

GTX 460 fits the bill here.
