Expected Price Drops

High people!

This is my first post in this forum although I've been reading it for about two months already. I'm in a bit of a problem right now, as I need to get a graphics card before I leave the U.S. on Jan 14th and don't know if there will be any price drops, especially for the 6870s (preferrably 2GB version), since the ones who will replace them are coming out in February and I obviously won't be here. My budget is $400 which can get me these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131446 from newegg. I know i could wait until the 9th to see what happens but I've been having some problems with getting stuff delivered with the free 2-day shipping, (stuff I ordered on the 31st Dec being delivered until this friday as also stuff I ordered the 3rd, which was a business day and I just can't risk not getting my before I leave.

So, long story short: Do you expect any price drops for the 6870s on Jan 9th?
The prices are already low. They won't get lower for 6870's - maybe for the 6870x2 (more realistically it'll EOL near $400).

If you could Crossfire, why not get 2 6870's for $260? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=u0t0f0fp66426dd0c0s701&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16814161389

edit: Or $380 after rebate for Crossfire 6950's: http://us.ncix.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031501&sku=58455&vpn=HD695XZNFC&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1301

Thanks for the advice, jrbroad77!

The problem is, the MIR is pretty much useless for me, and I'd rather have 2GB to avoid any limitations with BF3 (reason I'm building this rig).

Hehe, it's gonna be a helluva ride getting this babe through Nicaraguan customs unnoticed (I'd otherwise pay $125)

It's not 2gb, it's 2 x 1gb. But it shouldn't be much of a problem at 1080p.

You should get 2 of these.

Also, I'm not a big fan of crossfire or SLI setups. I have 2 6850s, and it's not all it's cracked up to be.

Personally, I would get one of these instead.

The ones I posted in my original post are, AFAIK, 2 X 2GB. Oh, yeah, that would total $450 and the budget is REALLY tight, but I'll see if I can get some extra money.

EDIT: Oh, you're talking about the setup jrbroad77 posted, I was talking about a single card, not the whole setup.

AFAIK a dual-GPU card works like Crossfire, so the 2GB total (yes, 6870x2 is 2GB total) works like 1GB - each GPU uses 1GB of VRAM and they alternate rendering frames. Right?

edit: Powercolor 6870x2 specs (and review) http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphics/display/powercolor-radeon-hd6870x2.html#sect0

So, there's no decent 2GB cards to crossfire in the budget. Maybe just get a 6970 2GB.
